I'd actually feel more comfortable with Gillies in net than Lack.

Do it. Although you'll need to sacrifice a couple dozen chicken wings beforehand. And maybe some of Jobu's rum to wash it down.

I'm trying to not feel that way. I know Lack has been working crazy hard in practices since he arrived and I think he's likely more capable than Gillies at routinely stopping NHL pucks.
Lack doesn't reek confidence, but you've gotta think management and coaching had a plan in mind to get Lack going again like he was in Vancouver.

I don't understand why you would feel more comfortable with a goalie who has played a grand total of one NHL game. I understand why some are not especially confident in Eddie Lack, but he is a bona fide NHL goalie with a winning record through over 100 NHL starts.

Lack didn't have a bad goal last game either. He let two goals in, but one was a snipe from one of the NHL's most elite shooters and the other was a lucky bounce off Ferland's stick. As others have mentioned, the Flames actually improved their play once Eddie slotted in.
I definitely agree that confidence is a huge factor, but after getting his first recorded win in Flames silks, after weeks of being cold with very little in terms of mental preparation, should allow him to relax a bit. If he had let in a bad goal last game, I think it'd be 50/50 between him and Jon, but he held the fort and even made a game changing save after being Bronx cheered. That speaks of character to me.

Lack has a 0.857 SV% this year. That's good for 66th out of 71 goalies that have started a game this year.
Lack has a 3.76 GGA this year. That's good for 60th out of 71.
That reeks confidence to you TC? That looks like a goalie on top of his game?
-
It's also not anecdotal that the Flames had a plan to revert Lack's game back to the one he had success with in Vancouver and move him away from how he was asked to play in Carolina. That's a well-documented fact.
But again I say, I would trust Lack, an NHL goalie with a 139 games played and regular practices with an NHL club, over a call-up with 1 start who just went to his friends funeral and is probably feeling a million ways.

Yeah time with my teenager pretty much trumps everything else. If he wants to watch the game with you that is one hell of an easy decision. And you will both get to enjoy a Flames win!

|
And knowledgeable hockey people never get that stuff completely wrong, do they? I mean Toskala was clearly the better prospect than Kipper.
I hope Gillies turns out great. But he consistently gets more opportunities from the organization despite Rittich putting up better numbers over a prolonged period. That deserves to be questioned.

With how your original post was framed, there was no indication whatsoever as to your measure of Lack's sense of confidence. Of course, it is anecdotal when not couched in a clearly defined and transparent set of parameters.

After one full game a two periods of work? It doesn't look like anything. There are any number of reasons to explain two individual performances, and Lack's marginal statistics do not in any way obviously correlate to his own self awareness or perception. Results don't necessarily have anything to do with a player's confidence—how can any of us know about how confident Lack feels today without having this discussion with him?

Okay? I am not sure what that has to do with Lack's confidence, except I would imagine he is more confident playing the position the way he has had success doing so in the past.
Look, when a poster talks about persona, or character, or emotive traits I think it is fair to say that readers will rightly interpret all of this as anecdotal. As far as I am concerned, these sorts of arm-chair psychoanalysis are completely invalid, and yes, under these conditions qualify as "nonsense."
*EDIT*
Oh, hey! I just heard Derek Wills on the radio reporting that in conversation with Eddie Lack he has talked about how confident he is feeling right now.
