he was already playing for the farm team.
upgrading him to a NHL contract means that they may want him in the NHL level, either as a callup or a depth d-man full time

Yeah he has an AHL deal with Stockton already, this just gives him/team the opportunity to play in the NHL if needed.

good for him. Doubt they'll use him at the NHL level, but if they want him to replace Bartkowski in the press box I certainly won't complain.

Cheap depth in case of injuries
Wouldn't expect him to be the 3rd callup even but good to have

Right hand shot. Don't see him getting any games unless someone on the right side is injured or no longer there.

He wasn't noticeable which for him is good. He has played some for Columbus and was on world junior team for Canada. Would be ok as 6 or 7 another right handed shot though. Flames would probably move out a RH dman at deadline then.

a few notes about Goloubef:
is a right hand shot, which means Flames rightie d depth chart is now:
Hamilton
Hamonic
Stone
Andersson
Goloubef
Prout
in Stockton he has been paired mostly with Kylington and was on pace for career numbers in the AHL before the Olympics
he attended Sabres training camp on a try out. They offered him a NHL deal at the end of camp, but he turned it down so he would be eligible for the Olympics.

I have to say that this is pretty awesome. Players like him do not get an opportunity often (if ever) to spend some time with world's top athletes.

FWIW, Goloubef is Russian surname that means Pigeons
He must be of Russian or Ukrainian descent.

Kind of a typical third pairing d man it looks to me from just a quick glance at his NHL history. Wonder if this depth give the Flames some room to move a RHD.

Maybe reading too much into this, but perhaps an increased probability that a RH defenseman is on the move? By all accounts Andersson is NHL ready and if this guy is too...then we have 5 NHL ready Defensemen on the right side.
