I have an employee retiring in the next week. This individual is a long term, good employee.
I would love some recommendations on high end ports. Yes she likes port.

If I can get 4 bottles of Caymus for $300 CA that's a steal.

It's not the reserve. I think these are $80 each at Costco. I may be misremembering.

ZYN.ca has Mondavi To Kalon Reserve on sale. Has anyone tried it? I am going to get a couple , but was wondering if I should get a lot.

I've bought a few things from this auction house. They're certainly legit and they arrange shipping. I think it's ok. You have to add the buyers premium, taxes and shipping though. So it does need to be a good deal.

You have like a Rolodex of Costco wine prices in your head. It's amazing.

Well, I used to know the stats for every player in the NHL. Now I use my brain for the important stuff.

Raw Bar and Oxbow both have 1/2 price bottles of wine on Fridays.

For wine club - can you recommend a wine from this region? I am making Lapin A La Moutarde.

Still liking this;
2015 Domaine Lafage "Bastide Miraflors" Côtes du Roussillon
Read about this as being a good value red (Syrah/Grenache blend) and found it at Costco for $18.49. Went back and bought a case. A good summary;

Tip. Costco (Heritage) has CastelGiocondo 2012 Brunello for $37.99. Excellent value.
BTW did not see the Lafage there, but might have missed it.

Another recommendation, probably of most interest to Troutman with his Spanish pursuits...
Took a bottle of this to Il Centro last night - amazing - big, yet smooth. A bit pricey at $91:

I ordered more when I got home.

At the other end of the price scale ($15.75), had this pinot gris at Cassis on Friday (At ridiculous mark-up). Really nice and superb value:

Bring this back to offer a couple tips...
Costco has the Barossan (AUS) for $15. Very good bang for the buck, particularly for a large function where you want a bunch of good wine for low price, and it's a twist off.
Also at Costco, Tarima Hills (SPA) for $17. Tried it on MON and it was fantastic. Went and picked up a case yesterday.
Higher up the food chain, Machete for $77 at ZYN is a superb wine.

Got my box 'O wine from Edge of the Earth today. I love this winery because they sell out of their garage and my whole case shipped to my door including tax was $140.
The Argus is a grape they swiped from a scrap heap at Gray Monk 30 years ago. They don't know what kind of grape it is but it grows well on their hill side. The bear likes it though so it's usually eaten/sold out by mid summer.
The Whatever is usually a white syrah but it didn't work out that way this year. So it's a blend of whatever was available. Looking forward to trying it. It's probably amazing.
And the Smooth Foch sounds awesome cause foch is anything but smooth.
Also got some Ortega cause it's good too.

Silly question, but did they ship to you in Calgary? Or somewhere else? I know that there are some old, unenforced laws that prohibit taking alcohol across provincial borders.
My mum loves this wine, and she gets friends and family to bring some back when they come back from the Okanagan. But if shipping is just $20 more than picking it up in-person, that's pretty awesome.

Yeah most wineries have no problem shipping anywhere. Edge of the Earth just writes your address on the side of the box and hopes for the best. I was kind of surprised none broke. I think it's a not so well kept secret that Canada Post doesn't really care what's rattling around inside your obvious box of booze. And I think if you're concerned you can ship with a private shipper and there's really not much anyone could do about that.

Good to know. Thank you.
I feel somewhat emboldened by the fact that if I was unlucky enough to be charged, the entire Canadian wine industry has been waiting for a way to challenge the law in court. "Hello, Terry David Mulligan. I loved you on Much Music. Do you have a minute?"

Recently a friend returned from the Ukraine and gifted me a bottle of Saperavi from Georgia. It was delicious and now I would like to find some way to purchase a variety of wine from this grape and or country. Does anyone know of a website that might hold these wines, or a wine store that caters to eastern European wines? The store could be in either Edmonton or Calgary.
