Vancouver has reached the halfway point of the season. Their green snake sits 6 points below the black line and 4 points above the blue line. A record of 25-16-0 (0.610 point percentage) in the remaining 41 games would give the green snake 96 points. It is currently on pace for 84 points.

Calgary reaches the halfway point after the Wednesday, January 2nd game. Edmonton reaches it after the Saturday, January 5th game.

Let me know if you want me to remove this, but I thought it would be interesting to do something a little different. This snake looks at the true points per game for the top 2 scorers on Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver. This includes games missed (Pettersson missed 6 due to injury, McDavid missed 1 due to illness). It measures point production against a single point per game pace and assumes all games have been played.

Gaudreau vs McDavid: These two players are clearly on top of the list. Gaudreau started an upward rise at game 27 and almost caught McDavid at game 28. However, both players have been on the rise since with McDavid at a slightly higher pace.

Monahan vs Draisaitl: The snakes for these two players have been having an epic battle all season. Draisait's snake currently sits two points up on Monahan's, but Monahan's five points last night brought him into striking distance.

The Vancouver Boys: Pettersson is actually 3 points above a point per game pace but he missed 6 games which brings him under the line. Horvat isn't in the same offensive category as the other guys, but he is the second best Vancouver has to offer.

Notes: Calgary has three other players above or near a point per game pace (Giordano, Tkachuk, Lindholm) and Edmonton has one (RNH). These players would have made the chart, but were excluded to keep it legible. Vancouver has Boeser near a point per game pace, but he has missed 13 games so has been excluded.

On my favourite game of the regular season each year, the Flames won on NYE. This moves the red snake to 5.171 points above the black line, 7 points above the orange snake, and 8 points above the purple snake. The red snake has now finished above the black line 20 consecutive games, and is guaranteed a minimum of four more. A record of 22-20-0 (0.524 point percentage) in the remaining 42 games would give the red snake 96 points. It is currently on pace for 107 points.

The blue snake has been a model of consistency during the last six games, going a perfect 0-6-0. It is now, like Jester, screaming downwards trying to get below the hard deck. After 39 games the blue snake is 6.659 points below the black line and, remarkably, 2 points above the orange snake. A record of 28-14-1 (0.663 point percentage) in the remaining 43 games would give the blue snake 96 points. It is currently on pace for 82 points.

The blue snake would have to win its next 9 games in a row in order to get back above the black line the quickest. Conversely it would have to lose its next 6 games in order to drop below the orange snake the quickest.

The red snake has reached the halfway point of the season with a 25-12-4 record. That puts it 6 points above the black line, 8 points above the purple snake, and 9 points above the orange snake. This is the second highest the red snake has been above the black line, next to the conclusion of game #34 when it was 6.195 points above the black line. This marks the 21st consecutive game above the black line, with a minimum of 5 more games guaranteed. A record of 21-20-0 (0.512 point percentage) in the remaining 41 games would give the red snake 96 points. It is currently on pace for 108 points.

The purple snake is making me relive last season every time I look at it.

The season starts with hope
Snake is trending downward by game 38
Winning streak brings hope back
Stay hopeful until game 63
Nosedive for the rest of the season

Jesus. That was a rough year as a Flames fan.

Thanks for all the snakes St.Squiggs.

If you ever have the time I think that it would be interesting to see the Snakes of past Stanley Cup winners.

Today's win puts the red snake 5.659 points above the black line, 6 points above the purple snake, and 9 points above the orange snake. This marks the 23rd consecutive game above the black line, with a minimum of 4 more games guaranteed. A record of 20-19-0 (0.513 point percentage) in the remaining 39 games would give the red snake 96 points. It is currently on pace for 107 points.

Man, that extra crispy snake is beautiful. It's beginning to look like our view of the Rockies, rearing majestically above the foothills.

At its halfway point the blue snake is playing .500 hockey with a 19-19-3 record. That puts it on pace for 78 points. 78 points would win you the President's Cup in the 2012-13 season by 1 point. The last time a team made the playoffs, without earning at least half of the points available to them, with an 82 game slate, was during the 1998-99 season. The 8th seed in the Western Conference that year had 78 points. That team? The Edmonton Oilers. They won as many games in that year's playoffs as they are going to win in this year's playoffs.

The blue snake is 7 points below the black line and 2 points above the orange snake. It is on pace for 78 points. A record of 27-13-1 (.671 points percentage) would get the blue snake to 96 points. Only Toronto and Tampa have a higher points percentage than .671 in the league as of the time of typing.

All three Western Canadian snakes have reached the halfway point. The red snake sits 5.659 points above the black line, the green snake is 8.683 points below the black line, and the blue snake is 7 points below the black line. The blue snake is below the green snake and its current point, due to the discrepancy in games played.

A fun fact about each snake:

Red - The longest the red snake has gone without earning a point is two consecutive games.

Blue - The blue snake has spent exactly one game above the black line in the last 26 games. It would need 9 straight victories to get above the black line the quickest.

Green - In the last 8 games the green snake has a 4-4-0 record. In games they won they scored some goals. In games they lost they scored zero goals.
