Arent you concerned that taking lessons from an Oil fan will cause you to shank your shots all the time?

But in golf the fewer the points the better. Perfect for the Oilers.

Sucks but I can see Quenneville being hired by the Oilers at some point this season.

An Oilers loss always makes Mondays feel better.

You’d think Quennville would be smarter then get himself wrapped up in that situation? From a hockey perspective it makes sense for the oilers but a busted cap team, no prospects, no trade options, and a history of puppet coaches. Pretty rough situation. LA seems like a likely destination. Possibly the flyers.

What team loses less (no one wins) in that trade of two horribad contracts/players?
Milan Lucic gets to go home. Loui Erickson is the clear loser.

It would be like the Cammalleri for Jokinen traded last year just on steroids. Two teams who don't get any better as a result.

On the contrary, I would think that all the best golf pros are Oilers fans.

No.

Not even coaching guru Joel Quenneville can save the Oilers.

No one can.

No one.

That's why Lucic's contract is my favorite contract in the league. Can't find the article, but I remember reading one where they broke it down and it literally is buyout proof. Didn't even know you could negotiate one like that, let alone convince the GM of a multi-million dollar NHL franchise that it's in the company's best interest to sign it.

The Oilers really and truly are stuck with him.

If he were 35 it might make sense, but how does a guy fall that far that fast at that age? Also he has been put in plenty situations to succeed without any positive results at all. Of course he's slow and all, but speed never had any part in his success, so how on earth does an NHL player just lose his entire skillset like that?
The Oilers signed him at the worst possible time.

You could see three things were happening in the NHL.

1) More young players were entering on entry level contracts to give teams more balance under the salary cap
2) This youth and the recent tend towards young skill meant the game was speeding up dramatically season to season.
3) Concussion fears and political correctness were pretty much pushing fighting out of hockey.

As a result Lucic lost his entire game in 24 months.

The Oilers went out and bought a betamax instead of a VCR.

Every once in a while you get a guy that just finds it a new location. The other 19 out of 20 times it's short lived.

Bank on the latter.

To give Staples some credit at least he starts the article suggesting it's unlikely to continue.

Remember when Shean Donovan filled the nets in Calgary?

Probably true. Part of me thinks that most top coaches don't find the Oilers boys club management a good thing but the idea of being able to coach McDavid has to be somewhat attractive. He's probably going to have a lot of options.

I've been thinking the same thing. That contract is so bad, and so completely buy-out proof that a CBA 'Get Out of Jail Free' Card is pretty much their only hope.

I still think he will go on LTIR for complications due to his Scheuermann's disease - whether it's legit or not.

He is not going to want to stay in that festering hell-hole, the team will not want him around or his cap hit, I think it's only a matter of time...

Gradnson: "Grandpa, remember when you won the Jack Adams?"
Quenneville: "You know, I don't recall"
Grandson: "How about when you won those 3 Stanley Cups Grandpa?"
Quenneville: "Oh Grandson, those things come and go"
Grandson: "Well then Grandpa, what was the best part about coaching in the NHL"
Quenneville: "Those few years I missed the playoffs with McDavid, that was a real dream come true, you should have seen all the crossovers those years."

The guy just lost his job because the team he was coaching is built poorly, and very unbalanced. Much like the Oilers. I feel like the last team he'd run to is one that is in the same cap trouble, with some of the worst management in the league, and over a decade of absolute failure.
He's coached numerous Hall of Famers in his career, I doubt he makes his decision based on a single player.

Staples says it's time to sit him ...

Time for Lucic to Sit Out a Game

Quote:
Tonight it should be Milan Lucic’s turn to sit in the press box.

Lucic needs to simplify his game. He’s trying to do too much with the puck and giving it away too much. The play has constantly died on his stick, especially the last few games.
Quote:
But it’s evident Lucic is no longer a top line player on the power play or off of it. Instead, he’s got to find a new role as a player and he’s got to learn to accept that role and to thrive in it.

So.... remember 2 weeks ago before the Oilers-Pens game, they asked Mclellan about playing against Crosby and Malkin? He scoffed and said they should be talking about 97 and 29 instead...

TSN is still showing the Crosby OT goal every night since then.
