Just nuts that a player would choose that tire fire over the most dominant team in the CFL for the past decade.

Sounds like Campbell was lower on the priority list (compared to Evans and Wall), and only so much money to go around with Finch and Daniels also coming back.
A little disappointing to see such a solid team losing players like this but hopefully some of the younger guys are ready to step up.

Also looks like Messam has signed with Saskatchewan. Should certainly make the rivalry more interesting...

Last post -- looking at the current roster compared to the 2014 roster, only 15 players remain:
Bo Levi Mitchell
Shane Bergman
Spencer Wilson
Pierre Lavertu
Anthony Parker
Junior Turner
Micah Johnson
Quinn Smith
Deron Mayo
Jamar Wall
Brandon Smith
Adam Berger
Adam Thibault
Rob Maver
Rene Parades
Kamar Jorden, Charlie Power, and Brad Erdos were also on the practice roster.
Surprising to see how many players have moved on or retired since that championship winning team...

I wonder if Huff was shedding salary to make room for Tommie before he bailed ship.

Not Stampeder news.
But CFLHorsemen.ca's podcast host Ryan Ballantine, is fulfilling a life long dream of his as he's been selected to be a contestant on Big Brother Canada starting on March 7th on global.
We've fully encouraged him to be a complete jerk and villain on the show.

He is named as a defensive back, but clearly his best skill is as a returner. Interesting signing.
Quote:
The Calgary Stampeders have signed international defensive back and kick returner Troy Stoudermire.

“Troy has displayed great athleticism during his time in the CFL and has shown the ability to be a playmaker,” said Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel. “I look forward to seeing him come into camp and show us what he can do.”

I think that they expect that finch is going to get a ton of snaps in the backfield.

I certainly don't have a problem if Roy Finch gets more touches next season.

Right now they have 5 Running backs under contract
3 nationals
I'd expect that Powers is going to be the primary blocking back, Cote type of player. Williams and Finch will share snaps as the 3

Deron Mayo has retired.
Quote:
“It is with a gracious heart that I announce my retirement from the CFL,” said Mayo. “I would like to thank the Stampeders organization, my teammates and our supporters for making Calgary feel like home these last six years. After 18 months of rehab and many setbacks along the way, I feel that it’s in my family’s best interest to walk away and focus on life after football. I am grateful to all who have helped me along the way and for those who continue to motivate me throughout this process. Professional football has provided my family with a foundation to build upon for the rest of my life. The perseverance, grit and discipline that I have learned from playing this game for well over a decade will fuel my success in the coming years. Thanks and God Bless.”
|
Quote:
“I thank Deron for everything he has done for the Stampeders on and off the field over the course of his career,” said Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel. “He was a very good player for us – he was an important part of our defence and a strong leader in the locker room. He also showed his commitment to the city by remaining in Calgary year round and giving back to the community. I wish him, his wife Janelle and their daughter Maliya all the best in the future.”
