Default MRU plane crash

One of the pilot instructors killed was Jeff Bird. Pretty sure he and his brother Danny (?) were original Heckle In Eckville participants and active CalgaryPuck participants at the time. Jeff's handle was "Jeff."

I've seen some pictures. Looks like the same guy as far as I can recollect.

Condolences.

Yeah it was. His brother posted as DeanOMac. Jeff was a good friend to a lot of people on this board. Heartbreaking.

Played soccer with his brother, David, for years. David is one of the nicest guys I've ever met, and heard Jeff was the same way.

Wow, I'm pretty stunned. I went to HS with Jeff and he was probably the first person to open my eyes to the world of IRC.

things really must have gone wrong in the plane to have it crash with two presumably very capable pilots in the cockpit.

wonder how much of an impact it has on students enrolled in flight at MRU

I knew the other guy. Reyn.

Friend of the family, and took a shining to me when I decided to get into flying as a teenager. Back when it was still allowed, he brought me along to sit in his jumpseat for a day.

Great guy. Will be missed.

One of my co-workers was good friends with Reyn. Sounds like he was a gem.

This is a very sad and tragic loss, and condolences to both families.

Me too! Dave Bird is a great guy! I admit, I never knew Jeff.

RIP

My sincere condolences to Dave and the Bird family.

Came in to post about the fundraiser for his kids. Thanks Kermit.

I grew up in Queensland with Jeff, spent lots of time with those boys when riding bikes and playing nes was all that mattered. He served our country in Afghanistan and indeed was one of the happiest, kindest person I've ever met.

Its breaks me to think that he left the RCAF as a talented fighter jet pilot to take a position at MRU to be closer to his wife and kids.

I spoke with someone who is related to Jeff Bird today and I understand that a few years ago while in the military he was in a situation where he made a belly landing because the aircraft's gear did not deploy. This led to him taking the expected safer rout of becoming a civilian trainer.

Sometimes you can not control your own fate, it seems.

This person's children will not remember their dad given how young they are. I've donated anonymously and encourage others to do likewise. Thankfully there is a large and supportive family with them.
