I joined the Switch club over the Holidays, and I've really been enjoying Mario Odyssey, Picross S, and Golf Story. I doubt I'll be getting anything like Skyrim, DOOM or Dark Souls for it, as that's not how I envision using this system, but it's got a lot going for it. I really like the user interface and how easy it is to switch between handheld and console modes. The portability is definitely the killer feature that I didn't realize I wanted.
Some things I'm not a fan of:
- The kickstand on the system isn't very good.
- The eShop is already filled with a ton of shovelware and/or babby's first attempt at making a video game.
- The Switch pro controller isn't as good as the Wii U's pro controller. As an example, I'm passing on buying Puyo Puyo Tetris on the Switch because of this and going to get it for the PS4, as the PS4 controller is much better for higher level play.
Number of other release dates and announcements of interest today:
-The World Ends With You HD coming 2018
Daammmnn I remember playing this game on the DS way back when. It was great. I wonder how they're going to deal with the dual screen gameplay, which was essential in the battle system. Maybe split screen.
Nintendo is making it harder and harder for me to wait on finding a good deal on the Switch.
Number of other release dates and announcements of interest today:
-Kirby: Star Allies releases March 16
-Mario Tennis Aces releasing in the spring - seems to be focusing more on the tennis and less on wacky action, has a story mode
-DKC: Tropical Freeze port with a few new features May 5
-Hyrule Warrior Definitive Edition with all DLC and content from both versions of the game
-Dark Souls Remastered May 25
-The World Ends With You HD coming 2018
-Free update on Mario Odyssey adds online asynchronous multiplayer in February
Nothing mind blowing, but it was pretty solid and dates some decent titles for the first half of the year.
Yeah was interesting that they labeled it as a Nintendo Direct "mini" and it was mostly ports or DLC.
In the past all "mini" Directs have been followed up with a full sized direct in the 2-3 weeks following.
I have a feeling we may see a direct dedicated to firmware/online/virtual console in the upcoming weeks, and the "ports" were cleared out in this mini to get it out of the way.

There's already a mobile port of TWEWY that took care of that issue. I assume the Switch version will build off of those changes.
Would love something like a "New Super Mario Bros. All-Stars"
They could include:
New Super Mario Bros - DS - 2006
New Super Mario Bros Wii - Wii - 2009
New Super Mario Bros 2 - 3DS - 2012
New Super Mario Bros U - Wii U - 2012
New Super Luigi U - Wii U - 2013
Think they would make a killing if they released something like that in a bundle with the Switch before the holidays. Odyssey was great but I feel like for most casual gamers 2D Mario games are still where the $$$ is.
Release this collection to close off the "New" generation of 2D Mario games, then release a new 2D game the following year.

Totally. I’m not a “buy it the first day it comes out” guy, but for this I would.

And maybe add a new game...I play those games 4 players with my kids. Odyssey is good and all but not for all of us...really its a single player game (who wants to be a ####ing hat)
That is what I loved about the Wii/Wii U...the couch co-op
Mario Party 11 isn’t coming to the switch till 2019 now? What a disappointment. Probably the best parent vs kid type game after mario kart.
Guess i’ll see if Mario tennis is any good.
Really? thats a bummer. I looked into that yesterday to see when we could get it as MP10 is something I love to play with the kid on the WiiU (which Im selling).

I don’t think they’ve said anything officially about Mario Party.
If anyone is looking for a really fun couch co-op game I highly recommend Overcooked. It has a physical release now, originally only available in digital.

Counterpoint: I feel it gets frustratingly difficult later on. The level mechanics don't feel fun at all as you get deeper in. I've tried with a group of friends multiple times to get further into the game but no one wanted to continue.
The competitive mode is actually pretty cool, though!
Use Your Words is a pretty fun multiplayer game. It's a little like cards against humanity. Everyone uses their cellphone to log onto a website, which then displays their answers in the game. Pretty cool concept, and completely uncensored fun.
