Lots of complaints and reactions similar to us in the west, including poor planning by governments before imposing the lockdowns leading to many communities stepping up to provide for the elderly, how the isolation led to mental health issues and break ups among couples. But also a lot of key differences that I think stem from how different Chinese and other eastern cultures inherently are compared to the west.

But to note (only because I found this out last week) if you are a US citizen but live in Canada you dont have to show proof of vaccination to travel to the United States.
They always ask though. (Or at least in my 5-6 crossings they have.)

Also, I believe the alternate is true where a Canadian citizen living in the U.S. would be allowed entry into Canada even if unvaccinated. Both countries have the same law where any citizen can always return to their home country. In Canada there might be a quarantine ask, I'm not sure.

I crossed into the US about 3 weeks ago at a land crossing and they asked if we were vaccinated but didn't look at the proof. Coming back into Canada last week we were told using ArriveCan was mandatory, which includes uploading your vaccine proof. They didn't ask to see the app barcode but did scan our passports, not sure if that gets linked to your ArriveCan submission. But if you're a citizen they can't prevent you from entering, I think there is still a 2 week quarantine in Canada if you aren't vaccinated though.

IMO no Canadians can complain about requirements other countries have to enter those countries. If you don't like it don't go.
I do think the quarantine for non vax to enter Canada (especially after their mandatory pre-arrival and post-arrival tests come back negative) is a lot more like a punishment than a public health protection. But (like many Canadians) I don't care that much since it doesn't affect me...

Today Taiwan dropped the mandate to wear masks outside. It has been the case that, for several months, masks have not been required while exercising outside (biking, running, etc.). However, simply walking to & from destinations, masks have still been mandatory.
This changed today. No more masks outside!
100% of people are still wearing masks. One. Hundred. Percent. It’s fascinating.

I still wonder why some people, in Calgary, are leaving their homes, getting into their own vehicles, and are driving down the road wearing masks when nobody else is in their vehicle. Sadly the fear of "just in case" has overwhelmed logic and science.

Probably because Covid is airborne and can stick around in the air for a while. If you're on your way to pick someone up (especially if they're vulnerable, or if you've been sick, etc) it's not a bad way to keep the airborne virus load down for that person.
Or maybe it's just easier for them to do that than to keep taking a mask on and off.
At least that's what I've figured the thought process was.
