The trees branches that fell, fell away from the house. The tree that fell, was one we wanted to take down anyway.

I had at least 3 alerts on my phone to shelter in place.

Neighbors across the street had shingles blown off their roof, they were up at 10am patching. They're on the roof again as I type this.

Of the neighbors I've spoken to no real damage or issues. Just no electricity.

Same for my parents and in-laws.

Lots of trees down across the street from my inlaws in Glace Bay.

The lack of coffee I'm finding difficult but what can you do? Never occurred to me to pick up instant coffee.

The mobile data is poor. I have to be outside by the road for it to work (hence the lack of updates).

The kids are having fun. Oldest complains there's no iPad but is otherwise fine entertaining himself.

Off to boil some water on the BBQ.

We're safe, warm and dry.

Update: Still no power. The commercial area of Sydney River has electricity and is open. Lines are long at the Tim Hortons locations, McDonalds, and Robin's as well.

My sister-in-law has power, we had supper there last night and got showers.

My parents, and parents-in-law are all powerless.

No real damage to any of the properties.

Cell service is best at night at home. Works perfectly in Sydney River (where I'm in line at Tim's for coffee and breakfast for the household).

ETA for our power is Thursday at 11:00pm.

Office: Wednesday at 2:00pm

My parents: Wednesday at 11:00pm, but the map is right by their house so maybe they have power. Although I j own their next door neighbour had it yesterday.

Thankfully it's warm outside. Good God, if there was 3 feet of now and it was -20° it would be unfathomably horrific.

NL got hammered along the coast with severe damage coming with sea swells. Unfortunately there was a 73 year old lady that was swept out to sea. Apparently her and her husband were evacuating their houses when she went back inside to get something. That's all it took for the house to be taken by the ocean with her inside.

In Corner Brook we lost power here for a couple of hours but it never really got too bad. The communities on the coast got hammered though, a lot of destruction.

Hope our friends in the other provinces get power back sooner rather than later!

Yikes, I can’t imagine the horror of having your whole house move and likely collapsing on you, pinning you down as sea water rush in, drowning you and you can’t do a thing about it because of all the weight on you and the strength of the current

My friends with the place near Port Hood, also very lucky. There are two decks on their place, two units up, two units down, with glass railings. The tables on the decks were bolted down. Only one table remains but nothing was broken. Two of the tables are behind their place, one is completely gone. They lost power less than 24 hours. Other parts of Cape Breton, faired much worse unfortunately.

We got off lucky, there's lots of damage and trees down over entire roads, power lines, etc.

We still don't have power. My parents-in-law just got theirs back.

Our place, my office, and my parents still without power. ETA on all of them Wednesday.

Us, the house and yard made it all through safely. We lost power about 2am Friday, it just came back on this evening at 8pm. The generator worked great, kept both the fridge and deep freeze going and everything charged.

Nothing of interest to report, which is a good thing.

So um Hurricane Ian is currently projected to almost go right over my folks' house in Florida this week, where unfortunately they happen to be right now having arrived there a few days ago.

Currently their house isn't under a mandatory evacuation order, and the recommended evacuation order ends a few blocks away. But that could change of course (and anyway these zones are set on the basis of flooding, not on the basis of getting your roof ripped off).

Any pointers from our Atlantic CPer friends here who just had to put up with Fiona? I'm starting to get pretty worried.

I heard Fiona was thr worst storm in Canadian history. No idea if that's true.

That said, we didn't get the rain projected and the winds weren't cat 2, 3, or 4.

But we also are t built fir or equipped for hurricanes.

I'd imagine I'd be like when Florida gets snow. The infrastructure can't handle it.

That is to say Florida is built for hurricanes. So mess of a worry. But they also know what to expect better than us. Follow the advisories.

Have instant coffee, propane, generator if possible. Tim Hortons is a loving drive from Florida.

I would evacuate, even if not officially told to do so. Go to the east coast of the peninsula for a few days and wait the storm out. Unfortunately, a lot of people are going to do the same, so it could be a problem traveling now.

If they have preparations in place and are not in a flood zone or storm surge zone, best thing to do is ride it out.

Power estimates just pushed back. We went from tomorrow to Thursday but lots of places now next Monday or Wednesday.

Long lines as gas stations, but they think now that the petroleum plant has power and working that those lines will disapate soon.

Was talking to an older colleague today. They figure $10,000 in damage to their property from Fiona. Now they're worried about their winter place in Florida with Ian. 2 hurricanes in less than a week.

Seems like the latest trajectory has shifted away from where they are (Pasco county north of Tampa) and more towards Orlando and the East Coast. Still not out of the woods by any means, seems the whole state is going to get wrecked, but I feel a bit more comfortable that whatever preparations they've made should see them through. Scary though and I feel for everyone who has had to put up with crazy cyclones this year (we've had a few of them in Asia too).

We got our electricity back this afternoon at about 2:50pm.

That's about 133 hours without electricity.

My parents' house is still without.

I'm looking forward to a nice, long, hot shower tomorrow.

I grabbed a quick shower at the Y this morning.

Man, no electricity sucks. Like really sucks.

At least it's autumn and not the middle of winter.

At least the injury and death toll is very small.
