Default Party Trip in Denver

Some buddies and I are planning a trip to Denver in December for a Broncos game and hopefully some skiing, problem is none of us have been anywhere outside of the airport there.

I'm hoping there are a handful of CPers who have maybe been to an Avs game or two or are familiar with the city to help us with some planning.

Wheres the best hotel areas?

Where's the nightlife?

Any Denver tips?

Good skiing around there?

Any suggestions would be great. Heard its a great town, kind of like our own, would love to try and validate those comments. Thanks!

Stay anywhere in the vicinity of the 16th street mall in downtown. Lots of hotels there. The further north you stay (towards LoDo) the closer you are to Mile High Stadium (about a 15 minute walk). Good nightlife on 16th St Mall, LoDo, Larimer St, etc. Not sure what kind of nightlife you want, but everything from pubs (Tilted Kilt) to bottle service (Suite 200). Coors tour in Golden is always fun. Denver is a good town, you'll have fun. Pepsi Center isn't a far walk either for an Avs game (and tickets are cheap!).

Has anyone here ever been to a game at Mile High before? I've been to Arrowhead and to University of Phoenix before and both were extremely different, wondering what kind of tricks there are for tailgating or beer grabbing efficiency...

PS. Arrowhead was 10 times better.

No real trick, but the tailgate will be in the south parking lot. I found the folks in Denver to be incredibly friendly, so let them know you are from out of town and the beer will flow. Wear your colours and have fun! I was in the United Club at Mile High so I can't help you on beer grabbing in the stadium.

I loved Denver. Spent a weekend there and caught a Av's game, a Rockies game and a Springsteen concert.

Like the poster above said, as long as you're downtown you'll be fine. All the stadiums are super close to downtown and that's where all the nightlife is. Ton's of bars and great places to eat all over downtown.

The only pain about Denver is how far the airport is away from the city. It's seriously in the middle of nowhere. Getting a cab back and forth from that place is brutal. Rent a car or take the shuttle.

When will you be there? I doubt there are good ski conditions before Mid-December?

Vail might open around Nov 16th:

Going to Denver for Riot Fest at Mile High Sept 19-21.

http://denver.riotfest.org/?sort=day

What do I need to know about Denver? Hoping to stay near Mile High, or downtown. Three days at Riot Fest, maybe two free days/nights.

Is it cold at night in Denver in late September? Could it snow then?

http://www.denver.org/things-to-do/d...h-street-mall/

Denver's mile-long 16th Street Mall is the heart of the city. Designed by famed architect I.M. Pei, the pedestrian promenade is made of red, white and gray granite in a repeating pattern that, seen from above, resembles the skin of a Diamondback rattlesnake. Free electric shuttle buses travel up and down the Mall, stopping on every corner. Hop on and hop off, the free shuttles come every few minutes and make everything downtown easy to reach.

The Mall offers Denver's best people-watching. There are 42 outdoor cafes along the Mall, making it the perfect place to grab a bite to eat or have a drink. Denver Pavilions, near the south end of the Mall, is a shopping and dining complex with 12 movie theatres and more than two dozen shops and restaurants. At the north end of the Mall, 16th Street continues as a pedestrian path over three bridges connecting downtown to Commons Park and LoHi, a hip neighborhood filled with restaurants and brewpubs.

People often start threads about traveling to different places, not realizing there are probably threads about that place already:

This is a good bump because I'm thinking of doing the same trip this year at around the same time. So thanks.

BUMP!

Heading to Denver in a few weeks on a boys trip. Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for heading out to the mountains for the day. Thinking of going whitewater rafting. Anyone done it in Colorado with suggestions?

Going there for work and staying the weekend (catching Rockies/Giants series). I see the Coors Brewery Tour in Golden mentioned. Is it hard to get there. I'll be staying at hotel downtown and won't have a car (not that i'd be driving to the Coors brewery even if I rented one).

I stumbled across this German beer hall in Lo-Hi. Bronco Cheerleaders were there selling calendars:
