Default iPhone 4S charger recommendations

The Apple cord that came with the phone when I bought it in July of 2012 has become frayed. Can anyone recommend a good replacement one to buy? I'd also like to buy a good car charger as well.

I had a look in Walmart today, but there wasn't much for choice and I would rather be able to read online reviews before purchasing.

reviews of a charging cable?

I bought one at princess auto for $8 - it is one of those cables that has about 4 different ends on it. When I plug the cable into my phone, and the other end into a charger, and then plug the charger into an outlet - my phone becomes charged in about two hours or so.

he cord is black, so it goes with almost any outfit I am wearing.

After having a some odd issues with chargers and cables, it's all OEM for me now for Apple stuff. The savings aren't worth the hassle IMHO.

A good thread to read on the subject:

Ken, were they Monoprice or something like Deal Extreme or Ebay Cables?

I just ask as Monoprice are all certified cables, and I have a dozen of them with zero issues.

I always thought the problem was with the $3 lightning cables you know can't be made for those prices. At least Monoprice is about $12.

Yes, Deal Extreme or eBay. However one was a $10 cable from a North American seller. Monoprice should be OK if they are certified, but as said before when you are now looking at only saving 30-50% instead of 90-95%. For that much difference I'd still just go with OEM.

I know, I know..... I am feeding the system that Apple is creating.

OEM is the way to go... As Ken said, pay the extra $10 for peace of mind. It's worth knowing you're not going to damage any of your other electornics or start a fire from a crappy $2 cable.
