1) He can't possibly think that he is going to get selected, and if he does, there isn't a better place for him and his family than Seattle.
2) He doesn't want to piss off Flames fans. He would get booed mercilessly if the Flames lose a good player and he doesn't play well.
I just don't think this is something that really needs to be stressed over.
|
Exactly, it makes zero sense for him not to waive his NMC for the expansion draft. The only reason he wouldn't would be to purposefully punish the Flames organization. Things would have to be going quite bad for that to happen.

Great.
No, that's awesome. Really well done.
|
On the flip side if it does get lopsided then at least we have something to be happy about. It's pretty obvious both GM's think Neal is going to score more goals next season or this condition isn't part of the trade and it was a matter of them hammering out the goalposts of how much more they think Neal will produce. 10 goals was the over under decided on by Treliving and Holland.

Thank god he isn't, based on this garbage they might have pulled a 1st rounder out of the flames for him.

2.95 in dead space for 6 years vs 5.25 is almost dead space for 4.
I don't think there's a correct answer either way as far as which is better, but not hard to see why they'd prefer the one where they have an asset back. Even if it's a crappy one

Neal is terrible, always disliked him as a player..... but Jesus.... Lucic?
I guess now we have our goon.
I still think we should have got more value for taking back the worst contract in the league. Pull and RV should have been included, or more salary retention.
Terrible ####ing trade.

Seems like a nice contingency if Neal doesn't bounceback a bit.

It seems like BT knows he is getting the worst player in the trade. Deal is garbage.

I'd rather get nothing than cheer for Oilers goals. It's like an admission that he knows this is a bad trade.

Yeah I really hate adding toughness for the sake of adding toughness and I think at the end of the day, that was what it was all about.
Frolik said when we were eliminated that the team was too soft. Maybe management felt the same way. We targeted Kadri and when that fell through we took on the boat anchor of a contract that is Lucic for the sake of adding sandpaper to our lineup. This might bite us hard come the expansion draft.
I just hope management is right and the only thing missing from us winning the cup is a bit of toughness.

We don't know what we get if the condition isn't met. I think we're better in the 4th or the 6th than the 3rd LOL

I’m sincerely hoping for Lucic to do well in CGY. I’d just like to hear Treliving explain what he was trying to accomplish. I doubt he will comment but why no second chance for Neal and what did they look at or study about Lucic that made him a target.

Powerplay Quarterback

Ah well, he may be a pylon for the next 4 years but he'll be our pylon and he'll have my support.
Tkachuk, Bennett, Lucic and Andersson are going to have a free ride 5 times next season, and for the next 4. Funnily enough, knowing that Kassian will go quiet, Mike Smith and nurse are the toughest they have.

I'm prepared to wait and see once the season is going, but on the surface this is a crap trade. Yes we dumped some dead weight, but we picked up equally or worse dead weight that will be nearly impossible to get rid of.
Initial reaction is I hate it because it got the Oilers out of Lucic cap-jail.

I could almost guarantee that not having any muscle in our lineup was a huge factor. Basically if neither player brings anything, at least Lucic can fight. But holy
This trade would have been refused on NHL19 and soured the GM relationship for life if the Oilers attempted it.

It would have been 8 years of dead cap space if they bought out Neal this summer.

A real head scratcher.
Would like to hear what BT says on it.

I think Treliving wanted to get tougher and that he didn't think Peters and Neal could co-exist. This shows just how bad he wanted to get that out of the locker room and in his mind at least could justify that they got tougher.
At the end of the day this is all Treliving's doing. He's the one that signed Neal which has blown up in his face. He's trying to make the best of it with this trade but given how the Brouwer deal blew up in his face I'm still kind of surprised he was willing to go right back to that well. I hope he's learned his lesson here as the Neal contract was extremely costly for the organization as it's netted the Flames what is considered the 5th worst contract in the entire NHL by the Athletic advanced stats and positive value probability of only 6.2%. It has to be noted that Neal was an honorable mention in the article but obviously their calculations concluded he had a higher positive value probability.

And yeah, Neal might be done, but so is Lucic. Unless he miraculously makes some return to his former glory, he's a boat anchor.
|
I know the tweet said the Flames will honour the NMC, but according to the CBA that didn't really have a choice did they? I thought they could only remove it if it didn't kick in yet.
