I've been trying support for the last few days and end up dying more often than not. So I try to be a hybrid of sorts. Keeping in firing range and trying to get into the flight path of planes while patrolling ahead of the group.

I may skip the 5k upgrade and send that exp straight into the grind of getting the Cleveland.

Yeah, I'm getting nowhere in terms of EXP for the cruiser class playing a support role. Just going to go back to solo hunting on the maps. I seem to live much much longer that way. Who cares if I get yelled at from the dudes in the game chat box. Its just text.

Especially when you're trying to cover the one lone wolf battleship who goes off in the opposite direction of the group. Or, when your in the group but your boat gets targeted specifically. At least when I wander off alone I know I can pick my battles and have a better chance at winning them.

Oh boy! 6k exp away from Cleveland. It's rough, you get over half and the match maker all of a sudden chucks you into games versus a bunch of Clevelands and you get your butt handed to you. Limiting exp gained to around 400 a match.

I kind of hope they give the FTP players some more slots then. I'm not a fan of dumping too much money into games. Hopefully the British lime make their way out soon too. I may spend some money then

They're battle testing the German Tier V cruiser and the Russian Tiev V Destoyer. You need to kill 4 ships in one match to get one. The German Cruiser is pretty awesome. It's a Tier V Cleveland with Torps!. Gun are weakly armored but super accurate and the re-loads feel really fast. Drives okay. Bleeds a ot of sped in turns. more so than any other cruiser I have used.

Ya, the torps are a nice addition on the german ship, especially two salvos so you can play with the aim. Though I think it's a lot closer to the Omaha than the Cleveland and I feel it has less punch, especially less than the Murmansk. Really loving my full spec'd Cleveland though. I've got it set up for AA and it's a beast playing protector for the battleships.

Digging the maxed out cleveland. hang time on shots is a bit of a pain but its still fun.

I do like the German Cruiser though. I've been laying some beatings down with her. Although the last few matches I've been focused on to the point I don't even get a shot off. Just ganged up on.

Trying to get the Russian DD but I just cannot get 4 kills with an american boat.

Jumped in the game last night and after a while, I noticed that I had a Japanese premium destroyer in my yard. What did I do to get that or did everyone get one? Burned up my last slot and was going to purchase a Phoenix.

Weird, I thought they were just handing out Russian and German premium destroyers. Whats the ship called (Atago?) The ones they are handing out also didn't take a free slot in my list, it added one.

Ah that's how I got it haha. I had a monster game in my Wyoming and was trying to figure out what I did to get that ship.

What do you need for the German one?

Same thing but with a Japanese boat. I did mine on a 6 kill run in my Kuma. Which is slowly becoming my favorite boat.

N/M, I was wrong. It was a Russian Destroyer and I was down a slot as I had just purchased a New York BB. I have to stop gaming so late....

So I suck at carriers too it would seem. I have the Bouge. When playing random battles I go with the 2 squads of fighters with 1 bomb squad. I keep the fighters together to team up on other fighters. Despite having the Bogue fully upgraded with the upgrade to have better guns on the fighters, I still seem to lose every air encounter with enemy squadrons. They seem to shoot me down 2 to1.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I notice it seems to happen more often when the other team has a Japanese carrier of the same tier, do they have better fighters?

I think the USN fighters are better than the IJN ones...or at least, there are more in the squad, so they do more damage. Is the enemy pulling your fighters over a ship? I've found that, in an open area, my USN fighters can wreck another IJN fighter squad, but being anywhere near enemy AA while attacking will mow them down pretty quick.

No, if anything I'm trying to engage them over MY fleets ships for exactly that reason.

I notice it when it's just me vs other guy in open air, nothing around. I even make sure I select both squadrons so that are attacking the same enemy group at the same time instead of one on one.

I had one game last night, however, where the enemy carriers both had 2 bombers and one torp squad. I sent out my fighters after them, the feast was exquisite. Once they were all gone, I spent the rest of the match hounding their carriers with my lone bomber squadron. Occasionally finishing off heavily damaged cruisers I came across.

Is it possible they are using the special fighter attack mode thingy that escalates damage? Have you tried using it yourself?

On another note, my captain is at Teir 4, and I went with the 20% range increase to <155mm guns including AA. The cleveland is now even more of a beast with 7.6km range on the guns and 60 AA rating. Common to get over 20 planes in one match now, just by staying near a BB.

The ship upgrade that you purchase for 150K? If yes, yes. In fairness that was only last night but still got shot down pretty easily by other fighter squadrons. If not, not sure what you are referring to.

Does the ships captain experience come into play at all?

Going to try some more tonight, would be really cool to find one of you guys and combine carrier squads together. Carriers that work together really tip the odds of winning in your teams favour. My handle in the game is Great Crouton.

No, it's an attack mode activated within the game. It was included in the Sept 1 update. See below:

- Added an alternative attack mode for fighter squadrons: Air Squadron Assault, activated by pressing Alt + LMB
- Activated by the key commands above, an air squadron carries out an assault upon a particular area on the map. Going at a high speed, fighters fly straight through the designated area, delivering massive fire at targets. All air squadrons (including allied ones) that happen to be within the impact area will take damage


I'm not a fan of my carrier and don't fly it anymore. Not my style. In regards to captains abilities, yes there are upgrades that will effect the rating of your planes. Also if you can see if there are upgrades for the ship/planes (switch from modules to upgrades).
