Could have saved a million just by waiving and demoting Dickinson. Gotta think Vancouver thinks Stillman can do something for them.
Well, but then they would still have the remaining cap hit. If they demote Stillman almost his entire cap hit is buried. Plus both players have 2 years left. A 2nd is a lot to give up though.

Dickenson was a pretty good player in Dallas, and then went to Vancouver and was a disaster. Good reclamation project for Chicago and picks up a 2nd.

I thought the Canucks were high on Dickinson, but he just had a lot of bad luck in scoring goals. Works hard and is a decent defensive forward. Was getting a lot of increased chances under Boudreau. Seemed most suited for a bottom-6 role.
Here's the quote about him from last off-season when he was acquired by Benning:
Quote:
“Jason was an important addition for our forward group this summer and we’re pleased to have agreed to terms with him on a three-year deal,” GM Jim Benning said in a media release. “He’s a versatile player that can play on both the wing and at centre, and is also a strong penalty killer.”
The irony to see how that turned out. I didn't think he was very effective on the PK though.

Can only bury something like $950k in the minors, so as I understand it, even if they sent Dickinson down they’d still be looking at cap implications of:
$1.7M (Dickinson $2.65M - $.95M)
$0.9M (approx cost of his replacement)
= $2.6M
It’s a wash.
Someone will obviously correct me if I’m wrong.

Oh good they traded a second and a third for Stillman.
I had high hopes for Dickinson when he was initially traded for however I think that he looked better than he was behind a very good Dallas Stars team defense and when he played with a much looser Canucks system he looked worse than what was expected.

The waiver savings is min contract + $375K. So for this year, it's $1.125M
But your point remains - their savings would be $1.125 minus the cost of the replacement player. So at most, $375k
It sounds like they might have a deal in place for Ferland's contract. If that's the case then they get more from raw cap space than they would if they were using Robidas Island.
