Uh, yeah. So maybe this is unpopular but I don’t care.

Smith was respectable in the playoffs on the whole, and had some notably good games, but his mojo was gone by game 5. He had a goal banked off his back after he lost the puck, for goodness sake.

He was arguably their best player but his best game wasn’t as good as Ben Bishop’s.

He is a greaser now. It’s like he has been sent from the house out to the garage and the next stop is the trash.

Lots to prove if they can get to the playoffs.
It’s called growth and maturation.. Tampa Bay had the same issue.

Stop with the stats from last year. They got curb stomped in the first round, they need to show that they can keep it up after the regular season.

timbit, please take a timeout, every person who posts an opinion, you ####e on it. I feel Bennett was the best player on the team in the playoffs, and Smith the second best.

So did TB. They got curb stomped also.

What’s your prediction for them?

Other unpopular opinions I've had:
- Fighting should eliminated completely from the game
- The definition of a hit needs to be re-shaped, to only be about separately puck from player and nothing more
- Theo Fleury is not an all time great Flame, and does not deserve to have his number retired or be honored by the club.
- The organization has been to quick to fire General Managers with Al Coates in particular getting a raw deal. With more time, Button would have also been a good GM. I'm very relieved by the commitment being shown to GMBT
- Iginla is the best Flames of all time but did the club a real dis-service by how he handled his NTC during his final season. He was also a major issue in his final few seasons by undermining the coach and not playing a strong two way game, creating a divide in the locker room, with Regehr on the other side.
I totally agree with your last point. Iggy wrecked the team in his last few years imo.

say it again, 2nd overall, out in the first round...…
I really hope they will make the playoffs this year, and go deep, learn from last year.

Most of the Flames's players diction is sub-par, and Bill Peters looks like he cuts his hair with a lawnmower.

... I bet the players all like rap music, too.

Wow.
As a Flames for the last 35 years, I am as excited about the team as I can remember. Seriously. They are a good team.
Doesn't mean it will end well, but I'm certainly not going to waste this season moaning.
Unpopular opinion, I know.

The reffing is fine.

Matthew Tkachuk is not as good of a player as his goal totals suggest.

Further to which, I strongly suspect 34 goals may well stand to be his career high.

Travis Hamonic is the Flames' second best defenceman, and is better than CP gives him credit for.

18 year old Sam Bennet is what he is.

The two best things ever put on a hockey jersey are the Canadian flag, and the Alberta flag. If they're not on the next Flames jersey, I'm going to buy one and sew some flags onto it.

You don't win playoffs series with Monahan as your #1 center.

Sorry, should have been more specific: Cups. Because who cares at the end of the season if you lose your last game?

I've shared one pretty consistently unpopular opinion over the years.

Barkov is a far superior player to Monahan in almost every part of the game other than goal scoring.

The debate has been going on since they were drafted, and I've been pretty consistent on my position. I think only now people are realizing this is likely true.

Brodie is a really good defenseman and people on here focus on his negatives way too much.

The Saddledome is a fine rink and the bathroom lines aren’t that bad, some people just don’t know which washrooms to go to.

Pocket Dawgs are disgusting over-priced hotdogs wrapped in rejected Tim Horton’s bread.

I’m struggling with this one. There isn’t a player on the Flames I actively dislike now that Neal is gone. I think the team is pretty solid and will be good for at least the next few years. We don’t have any blue chip prospects anymore but that’s to be expected. I’m quite content with everything for now.
