Sounding like he Jays may lose Cherington from their front office as he's reportedly the Pirates 1st choice for new GM.

How Blue Jays are impacted by Ben Cherington’s move to Pittsburgh

Meanwhile, the repercussions of this move will be felt in Toronto. Since joining the Blue Jays as VP of baseball operations in September of 2016, Cherington’s public profile has stayed low, but he has been an integral part of the Toronto front office. His absence will now be felt in player development, where he had worked closely with Gil Kim, and during the off-season when he helped create and execute the club’s strategy.

At the same time, this news won’t come as a shock to the Blue Jays, who were updated regularly as the interview process unfolded. When the GM Meetings took place in Scottsdale, Ariz., this week, Atkins, Joe Sheehan, Tony LaCava, Andrew Tinnish, Mike Murov and Steve Sanders represented the Blue Jays’ front office, but not Cherington.

Earlier this week, Atkins explained in general terms that the Blue Jays don’t believe in freezing executives out completely even when there’s proprietary information in play.

“A potential employee leaving us and going elsewhere, having information about one particular strategy that we may have on a free agent or trade acquisition and in the end, being open and honest and not closing down databases and information to our potential strategies is the approach that we’ve taken,” Atkins said. “I can see that there could be

I keep looking at this picture and missing my 20 year old metabolism. Good for him for taking the necessary steps. Even if it is for optic, it shows he’s not afraid of a little hard work.

"The Jays highly interested in" has become a bit of meme these past few seasons when they know they can't get someone but want to sound in on big names.

Strange not seeing Vladdy and Bo 1-2, but man is Pearson a stud. Pumped to see what he can do next season.

Jays signed Cole today!

Oh wait, it’s not Gerritt. Some guy named A.J. Cool I guess.

Jurickson Profar was non-tendered by the A's and Jonathan Villar was non-tendered by the O's

I'd be all over at least one of them, if not both.

Both decent utility players, switch hitters and still under 30 years old.

It's quite something that Profar has fallen that hard. Wasn't he first overall? If the A's can't work with him, I wonder what value he really has.

I'd gamble on him, but if the Jays don't ah well.

Villar though, if he makes it past the Jays while on waivers I will be pretty choked. 4 WAR, switch hitter, .792 OPS, 40 stolen bases (9 caught stealing). Can play all over the infield. Still just 28 years old too.

Jays have a crap ton of salary room and can easily afford the $10+ million he will get in arb.

Jays lose head of amateur scouting steve sanders. He's going to Pittsburgh with Cherington and getting a promotion.

Blue Jays non-tender Luke Maile, Derek Law & Jason Adam.

Good riddance Maile. Your defense is fine but your bat is supreme utter total crap and you don't belong in the majors.

Now Shatkins, be a good man and please non-tender Brandon Drury as well.

Man, we should have sold higher on him as soon as we weren't a playoff team anymore. Could have got so much more for him and Donaldson if they weren't hellbent on selling to the fans that we weren't rebuilding.

Looks like the Giants have non-tendered Kevin Pillar.

Wonder where he ends up next? Hopefully it's not back here because we don't really need him and he's honestly not that good.

A little surprised about Pillar tbh. Put up one of his best seasons and even received an MVP vote(giants media fanboy no doubt). He’ll land on his feet somewhere as a 4th outfield or something. Good luck to him.

He was going to make around 10 million in arbitration

He’s a starter for sure for someone, but you can’t be paying a guy 10 million on the downside of his career. His D is only above average now and he doesn’t walk .
