Default Legendary Calgary sportscaster Joe Carbury dies

Breaking on Twitter.

Known best as the "Voice of the Chucks," he also covered hockey and football on radio for almost 5 decades.

He called the horse races too when they were here. It was quite funny to hear his far more subdued trademark "And they're off" than the one he's famous for at the Staaaaaaampeeeeeede. Loved Joe Carbury.

RIP.
The Stampede board really f'd things up by never having him be the parade marshall.
Shameful.

One of the best horse race callers i have ever heard to this day...just a tremendous voice.

Also for years was the pitch man for "Shaw GMC....on the Blackfoot!"

Pure Calgary, RIP Joe.

"There's the horn....the tent poles are in....the stoves are in.....and they're off".

Also wasn't it Joe who called the horn "the clackson" forever?

Fond memories.

Pure Calgary, RIP Joe.
Practically every neighbourhood kid I knew growing up would do a "Joooooooe Carrrrrrrrrbury" impression. Of course, nobody could ever match the the original.

The Shaw spots were legendary. I do recall however a very short-lived Carbury turn as television pitchman for Jacques Funeral Homes. Of course, the bombastic, barreling voice was completely miscast and ended up being totally hilarious. It was like "Jacques FUUUUUUUUUUUNERRRRRRRRRALLLLL Homes." Maybe the spots awoke the dead, which would've been bad for business, I guess.
