Imo, any bad blood revolved around dougies security blanket. Freddy was waived, janko was called up.
Maybe they wanted janko playing but imo two things were happening: the franchise was still trying to force Bennett at center and they were trying to keep dougie happy and motivated by keeping his brother around who was clearly not an NHler.
Had to rub some guys the wrong way.

Even better, he didn’t even go to the draft because he didn’t want to be that guy in the stands. That’s intense.

Where did you hear about the subscriber event?

Also had to make sure Tanner Glass was on the opening night roster.

Tanner Glass didn't take Jankos spot though....entirely different roles.
Glass was there to provide some muscle, something Janko couldn't. Whether you agree with that approach or not, it was what BT wanted to go with at the time.

Hopefully Dube gets up here for a significant part of the season.
Would much rather see Bennett Janko DUbe than Bennett Janko Hathaway
IMO hathaway is expendable and would more than likely clear waivers if the flames wanted to send him down.

Really fascinated by where Dube would play if he makes the team.
Gut tells me 3rd line, but then do they play him as a winger?

Yeah that's the other aspect of things.
IF they see him as a pure C moving forward, they may just want him to go to Stockton and hone his craft there because he will likely not find a spot to do so in Calgary unless they shift one of Jankowski or Ryan to the wing...soething they may not wish to do for the same reasons.
Good problem to have mind you.

I'd move Janko over to the wing and try Dube between him and Frolik or Hathaway.

Off topic, but I was there last night too and I would pay an absurd amount of money to have lunch with Duha and listen to him talk hockey... so knowledgeable, great speaker and has well thought out opinions.

We’ve waited how long for a big C and you want him to move to the wing? Bring Dube in as a winger to ease him into the NHL or better (IMO) send him down to be a #1 C in Stockton for a year plus or minus injury time. Then next year make a more informed decision on your centre depth.

Does being a big C automatically mean he's as effective in his role as a smaller C? Seems to be an irrational method of roster construction.

With the way the game is played now, being big down the wing might be as important or more so than being big down the middle, especially if you have speed.
I could see Janko being a very effective winger who can play centre when required.

Jeeesh can't we just be happy that we have plenty of guys who can all play C?
Injuries happen, chemistry changes as a season goes on.
Having by my count 7 guys who can play centre in the NHL at a reasonable level is a pretty good situation to be in considering how long the season is. (Mony, Backs, Lindholm, Ryan, Janko, Bennett, Dube)

Isn't Czarnik a centre as well?

I'm pretty sure if you did analysis of CP posts over the years would find 'big' and '1C' and '2-way' to be highly correlated and highly valued. The Flames have been patiently developing such a player in Janko (ok maybe 1C is out of reach but not impossible). Why would they want to stall that development? Seems to be an irrational method of player development.
Dube is going to be a great player but Janko is proven as an NHL C and is only scratching his potential as well. Patience.....

What were the knocks against him heading into the draft, other than not real big? He's obviously not huge, but far from a smurf also. I'm curious now why he wasn't picked higher.
