Default 2018/19 NHL Season Predictions Thread

Imma go out on a limb and say that the Flames are winning The Cup this year. I've watched a few minutes of preseason hockey, and it's pretty obvious.

As ridiculous as this is, at least you're not like the fans and media who've already crowned the leafs' ass.

My prediction is that Monahan spends most of the year with the elite goal scorers like Laine and Ovechkin and breaks 40

They didn't get any respect all season long and defied unbelievable odds. I'm continuing the trend of no respect and saying LVK miss the playoffs.

I've got a feeling goaltending will be the Achilles heel for Calgary. No specific reason why - just a prediction.

Tampa unfortunately wins the cup.

Calgary makes great strides forward reaching the second round until running into Nashville, Winnipeg or SJS.

Is this the bold predictions thread or the non bold predictions thread?
If the former I'll have a go

Non Flames predictions

- The Jets miss the playoffs

- Elias Petterson wins the Calder
- Seth Jones wins the Norris

- John Tavares wins the Hart

- Your cup final is the Leafs and Preds, with Nashville winning it

Flames predictions

- The Flames make the playoffs, finishing second in the division. They get through to the conference final, where they lose to the Preds in 6

-Derek Ryan pots 20

- Sean Monahan scores 40
- Johnny Slumps to a 65 point season but plays a better all around game

- James Neal scores only 17 goals during the regular season but leads the team in goals during the playoffs

- Alan Quine ends up playing 50 games

- Rasmus Anderson sends the entire year up on the main roster and makes the all rookie team

Hard to imagine how Johnny could only get 65 points in Monny scores 40.

If LA and Anaheim both miss, who's ahead of Calgary for the top 3 in the division? SJ, VGK, and ? Not Edmonton since they fired everyone...

This. There's no way that happens. If Johnny and Monny are split up sometime this season then the season has gone very very wrong.

San Jose wins the Stanley Cup. Getting Erik Karlsson is Pronger-to-Anaheim stuff. It's their year.

Leafs get to the 2nd round.

Assuming Mike Smith remains healthy, the Flames make it to the Conference finals.

Bold only?

Flames
-Czarnik puts up 20+ goals and 50 points
-Monahan scores more goals than McDavid
-A flames goaltender has better numbers than Smith by seasons end. Either one of the guys already here or an acquisition
-One of Neal, Ryan, Lindholm, Hanifin becomes the new whipping boy (unfortunately)

Other
-Anaheim is a basement team
-Florida goes 2-3 rounds deep
-Jets miss the playoffs
-Puljujarvi or Rattie breaks out but the Oilers goaltending is below average and they end up bottom 5 (okay not so bold)
-Kovalchuk is no good in his NHL return

Around the league:
Tampa Bay wins the cups
Saros steals the starting job from Rinne
Jets come back down to earth, Blackhawks are elite again
Ottawa or Detroit finish last in the league.
NY Islanders do not regress much

Calgary:
Brodie leads the defensemen in points
Calgary has some of the worst goaltending in the league, largely due to injuries
Stockton Heat have the best season any Flames AHL affiliate has had in 10 years
Treliving is fired at the end of the season (probably as a result of the goaltending issues)

Flames:
Monahan scores 40
Lindholm scores 30
Neal scores 23
League best PK led by Bennett and Jankowski.
Powerplay is top ten in the league.
Smith goes down long term, Flames acquire another teams 1B up and coming goalie for their 2019 1st and a prospect we don't want to see go.
Sam Bennett signs with CGY long term pissing every Bennett hater off to no end.

League:
Pittsburgh returns to the cup final to only lose to SJ in the final
Edmonton finishes ahead of the Flames but lose in R1 while the Flames make the 2nd round. much salt rubbing in wounds occurs.

- Flames actually have a good start to the season and make it to the Conference finals.

- Hellebuyck suffers a case of Talbotitis and the Jets miss the playoffs. Prompting people to ask why the amazing Jets aren't as amazing as they thought.

- Tavares has a disappointing season and the Leafs get knocked out easily in the first round. Everyone else in Canada has to suffer through Sportsnet and TSN asking why the Leafs didn't easily win the Cup.
