I don’t see the lunacy in suggesting Flames should look at a waiver wire pickup.
Dansk is being sent down early in pre season precisely because it is less likely he gets claimed.
Although I don’t think I’d do it, would the same people mocking the suggestion be singing a different tune if BT traded Rittich for Dansk in the off season? If you think it’s a bad idea that’s fine but complaining about CP posters in general?

Fair enough. At the same time when something is worded as "its a no brainer" its a little different then "could be a good pickup". Yes, he could wind up being a good pickup but its far from a no brainer. When you speak in absolutes dont be surprised when there is some criticism.

I think they are two different things, because of their impact on the players.
If you trade Rittich for Dansk in the off-season - a very sideways trade - at least it is nice and clean, and you tell both of them they are getting a fresh start with a new team.
But if you claim Dansk and then waive Rittich, you end up with the same sideways move but with player disruption on both sides. It's the same result in the end, but handled poorly.
So I don't think your hypothetical criticism of CP holds water.
Back to the topic: claiming Dansk and waiving Rittich does not improve the team.

Say you claim Dansk, and then waive Rittich but he clears...
That means Dansk stays on the NHL roster automatically (so much for earning the job through competition), and both Rittich and Gillies go to Stockton. THat puts them both further down the depth chart than they were last year, which I think is unwarranted in this case, and poor player management.
It also pushes Parsons back to the ECHL, which is not in his best interest.
So you give one guy a job (who hasn't earned it), and punish your 3 current players to squeeze the new guy in. And it was a lateral move that didn't improve the team.
That's the kind of lousy asset management that I want to see in Shelbyville, not in Calgary.

Hmmm always interesting when a team (Lightning) known for unearthing diamonds in the rough claim a small skilled guy (Martel).

Semi-decent player/prospects clear waivers routinely, especially this time of year. I am more "floored" when a guy is claimed.

I thought Landon Ferraro didnt suck.
Then again, Matt Moulson....wow has he fallen.
Wotherspoon is perennial AHL fodder, which is a shame because his name is glorious.

My favourite part about the Smith injury and his return was the media narratives
Paraphrasing a slight bit...
Steinberg/Wills - "Mike Smith is absolutely 100% ready to return. There's no way this team would allow him to come back if he wasn't 100% healthy."
after the season ended...
Steniberg/Wills - "I'f I had to guess, I'd think that Smith wasn't 100% ready and likley came back too soon from that injury."

I appreciate that you took a view on this and I don’t think you were way off base tbh. It’s just that every team has Dansks. Our Dansks are Rittich and Gillies. It’s more or less a lateral move with poor implications to roster management, as Enoch pointed out.
Now if you really feel that Dansk is a superior player for some reason, I think that’s really what you want to argue.
In regards to the argument that we’ve been too patient with players that haven’t done much yet. It’s a poor argument. The reality is that some players develop late, some develop early, and everything in between, and players from all development paths make the NHL. There is no right or wrong. So to present it as such I don’t think is really a strong point.
The secret sauce to player development IMO is knowing when a player won’t amount to anything and trying to maximize the asset; and knowing when a player is still developing albeit at a slower pace. This is what the scouting and management staff should have expertise in assessing. It’s extremely difficult. That’s not to say we can’t have opinions but there is no right answer to the timeline of player development.
