Another vote for the Winter Spice from Big Rock. I bought it on impulse while picking up some Crazy Mexicans and some Bailey's... downed the four pack and will be going back for more (I drank the Crazy Mexicans and the Bailey's too, but that's another story).

On another note, my body fat has jumped to 14.7 since the start of December (up from about 13%). Stupid Christmas doing nothing but eating and drinking.... January is going to be ugly.

Combined with your Quagmire avatar, that made me laugh.

This thread is making me thirsty and kind of wishing I still drank.

Generally I find it isn't the beer that makes the holidays, but the setting in which you drink it! For example, nothing says Christmas time like laying face down in your own puke on the sidewalk, still clutching that last bottle of Great Western Pill like it is a hotline for the ambulance that will save your life.

Great memories..

Wildwood on 4th Street typically has a very good seasonal brew.

Espresso Stout from Big Rock is available only at Christmas. Nice dark beer.
Hermanators from Vancouver Island is also only available at Christmas. 11% alcohol by volume but smooth like butter. Excellent Christmas beer.

Around the Christmas season I like to class things up a bit and drink my Budweiser from a bottle. That or brown liquor with water.

Its not a holiday beer, but if you in Calgary can get your hands on some Garrison's Irish Red - from Halifax - mmm. That is good beer. would be a nice treat at this time of year...

A third vote for the Granville Island Winter Ale. I anticipate its return every year.

Another vote here for both the Espresso Stout and the Winter Spice Ale from Big Rock.

There are a number of specialty/import/microbrewed beers that I adore but for bar/party consumption I am shocked at how many people will pick a Coors or Canadian etc over the comparable Big Rock brew for the same or close to the same price!

We are so lucky here in Calgary to have Big Rock and supporting Big Rock is also supporting your local farmer as (I have been told) they tend to buy as much local as possible and they also do not use perservatives or pasteurization in their brewing.

If you're looking for a beer with all of the traditional yuletide flavors, this is it. Schlafly adds cloves and orange peel to this medium bodied ale. This beer says "Christmas" in a very straight forward way.
