I might be getting old, but except for the Lobster tail and the Boar Burger, it all looks really unappetizing.

every year there's something that might have been tasty but then they cover it with miscellaneous insects. do they really sell enough of those things to make it worthwhile?

https://snltranscripts.jt.org/05/05btaco.phtml

Announcer: We take a crunchy, all-beef taco, smother it in nacho cheese, lettuce, tomato and our special southwestern sauce. Then we wrap it in a soft, flour tortilla with a layer of refried beans in-between.
Jason: Sweet!
Announcer: Then we wrap that in a savory corn tortilla with a middle layer of Monterey Jack cheese.
Andy: Awesome!
Announcer: And it gets even awesomer, when we take a deep-fried gordita shell, smear on a little of our special “guacamolito” sauce and wrap that around the outside.
Bill: [ trying to hold this mighty taco ] This is pretty big..
Announcer: But it gets even bigger! Because we bake it in a corn husk filled with pico de gallo, then then wrap that in an authentic Parisian crepe, filled with egg, gruyere, merguez sausage and Portobello mushroom.
Jason: [ getting restless ] Can I eat in now?
Announcer: Sure. But not before we take the whole thing and wrap that in a Chicago style deep dish meat lovers pizza!
Andy: Pizza? Now that’s what I call a taco!
Announcer: Well, it’s not a Taco Town taco until we roll it up in a blueberry pancake, dip it in batter and deep-fry it until it’s golden brown. Then we serve it in all commemorative tote bag filled with spicy vegetarian chili. It’s 15 great tastes all rolled into one.

There are actually only a few items there that are like "dare you" type foods. The majority of the ones listed on the website actually look pretty good.

That said, I don't think there is anything appealing about hot, deep-fried food on a hot July day at the Stampede.

Music announcements start today. Tough to top last years Coke Stage. Apparently they’re doing the announcements over a three day stretch. Today was the first day.

Big Four Roadhouse shows announced today:
Dwayne Gretzky
Sam Roberts Band
Black Mountain Whiskey Rebellion
Classified
Hanson
The Trews
Barney Bentall
A Tribe Called Red
Clayton Bellamy and The Congregation
Dueling Piano Kings

As expected, a bunch of junk.

I know some people hate Cowboys tent and some enjoy it, but this year could be interesting.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calga...tent-1.5142786

Quote:
Some who live in Calgary's Beltline are uneasy about a neighbour's possible move.

Cowboys Dance Hall's Stampede tent, which used to be located next to the club, may move to the site of the former Enoch Sales House, which burned down earlier this year.

It's being forced to move due to the expansion of the BMO Centre, so the club's owner, Penny Lane Entertainment, has proposed erecting its annual tent on the Enoch Sales House site.

It would only be 750 metres from its old location but with a key difference: it'll be closer to the Guardian apartment buildings and their thousands of residents.

The company has applied for a development permit, which has not been approved, and has spent the past three days holding information sessions for the buildings' tenants.

I want a live action 24 episode! Jack Bauer gets insanely drunk and thwarts a plot to rig the Chuckwagon races.

The Coke stage lineup is out. It’s ridiculously good for an indie rock fan like me.

I can honestly say, that I looked at the Coca Cola lineup, through the whole thing, and beyond the whole, I know one act, there's nothing there that gets me fired up to go watch.

Which one act do you guys know? Just curious.

I feel like Metric, Feist (referenced on The Office), T-Pain (who can forget the classic I'm in love with a stripper) and Deathcab for Cutie (especially with their Bangkok to Calgary song) are all ones that would be hard not to have heard about. But liked or listen to is obviously different story.

Death Cab for Cutie is the only band/artist I've heard of in that list.

Its funny because I have some pretty fond memories of Coca Cola Stage performances

Lee Aaron - This was when she moved on to her more pop like Metal. She was awesome, ot and she was an amazing performer. Half way through the act some fans started chanting for Metal Queen, and she told them to grow the frack up it wasn't going to happen. Then at the end of the set, she did Metal Queen

Lover Boy - This was long after their 80's heights, and a bloated, balding and hammered Mike Reno was stumbling around the stage and the act became more about the fear of him falling off the stage then the performance.

Len - Remember them, cute poppy song, don't you steal my sunshine? Anyways when they were booked nobody checked on the rest of their catalogue which was a lot more hardcore. they came out and laid out a set and were promptly banned from ever returning.
