I bet Monahan thought it was Lindholm with him, not Hanifin. Anyway, that's just all speculation. If any number of things happen, the play is different. If the trip on Backlund is called, if Ryan scores a little earlier.

Mike Smith himself said he was glad Lombo stepped up after that hit.

I guarantee every player on the bench felt the same way. Peters obviously didn't like the hit

Dumba turtled. No one got hurt but maybe Backlund...

don't get where the problem is

It was an in the moment hit, I agree. Dumba was committed. Backlund took the hit to make the play. What I didn't like is Dumba elevated and feet left the ice. Dumba could have spun off that hit, instead of trolly tracking Backlund.

In any event, great game. Lots of great highlights, and no passengers. Johnny had that one incredible shift in the third where he was in all 3 zones and playing like a beast. Loved it.

Remember when people wanted Smith waived so we could call up Nick Schneider?

It wasn't much of a fight, so fingers crossed.

JG in his great shift near the end was specifically looking for Lindholm. So was Mono on his empty net chance because Lindholm was on the ice.

I agree as the knee was probably a worse play. I don't think Gio intended it but he probably injured Koivu with knee on knee there.

Agreed, the Flames need to send some messages to Boudreau’s Wild, they take way to many liberties with our top players since he’s been the coach.

I wish the officials could be fined as it wasn't even a questionable trip when Backlund had the empty net. Instead it leads to the hit.
As for the hit itself, I have no issues with it. Dumba is a big guy and if Hamonic stepped up on someone stepped up we would all be praising the hit. Backlund head was down and he was low to start with. Hopefully he is fine and just left given the point in the game.

Great performance by Smith and the blueline Hope Backlund is okay and Dumba gets a hearing for that elbow to the head. Good on Lomberg for answering the bell and trying to take a piece of that punk ass bitch Dumba. Oilers now 8 points back of the Flames. McJackass is also now behind Johnny Hockey in the scoring race. Good night all around.

Was he trying to kick the puck or something? That wasn’t a play Gio makes usually.
