Where are all these 'insiders' these days?

The Nucks leak the potential Hamhuis and Vrbata to Chicago chatter. Wasn't really insider insight from Lalji.

Drouin speculation is out there and nothing really new.

But what about the other 28 teams in the league?

It looks as though the 'insiders' really have no idea what's going on with trade talks.

Revealing a trade once it's sent to NY for approval, isn't exactly insight.. It's reaction.

So where are all these insiders who have sources? GMs holding their cards to their chest, I get it. But these guys are paid to provide information and to me, they aren't earning their paycheck.

Probably higher IMO. Price is the MVP of the league to me. Best player in the world at the most important position in the game. He's been making that mediocre MTL team a playoff contender for years masking their warts.

Duhat suggesting that Weisbrod may have influenced our Wideman signing with his Boston connection and that VAN might be a possible destination for Wideman because of that (pretty logical all around.) Although I don't know how well that contract would fit in for them next season.

If we somehow trade Wideman & get Carle (in a multi player trade), you'd think that Bolts would have to retain a bit as Carle has an extra year. Maybe we retain something like 50% of Wideman and they retain 20% of Carle's contract.
The idea of trading one year of bloated salary for two years of bloated salary makes me ill, regardless of the sweetener attached

No it falls right in line with what the Canucks have been doing for the past 3 years.

No one else would do it. But Vancouver would.

Have you seen their defense? They lack RH shots and Wideman would easily be #4 for them. They have no PP QB and the organization is "retooling". They should be rebuilding but they're not. Add the Weisbrod connection and I could see it.

Oh ya... one more reason. Benning.

I prefer it when I don't see a trade coming. The Granlund-Shinkaruk trade was great because nobody knew that was happening. Same with the Sven to Vancouver trade. Much better than trades we've known will happen for months, no surprise involved.

I do think though that this still shows teams do have elements of secrecy. I mean, how many people are actually going to be involved in trade talks(discounting players with NTCs/NMCs who have to be consulted)? The 2 GMs, maybe 1/2 of their assistants, maybe a few other contributors like Pres of Hockey Ops, analytics etc. Very few I bet and I reckon they are mostly sworn to secrecy.

Take Treliving for example. He is ridiculously tight lipped about trades, doesn't give anything away, his most recent trade shows that. I bet he runs his management team involved in these dicussions in exactly the same. If his opposite number does the same, then how are the insiders supposed to get wind of these deals?

Given that so much is known about teams and their workings, I do still like it when trades happen out of the blue.

Vancouver's defense is also putrid. One year of Wideman could be what they are looking for.

And for good reason. He isn't. He's more ripping on fancy stats guys for vastly underrating Russell. And he's right, the fancy stats don't even begin to tell the whole stories about players.

I sense that this is moments away from becoming a 'Marner is the best prospect in the league, Corsi-wise compared to 1997' situation.

Many of Bennings moves make zero sense. I just can't think of what we get back? Maybe Higgins and a 2nd?

Man I had to turn that off just now. They are shouting at each other and it is personal and terrible to listen to

Dude flipped the !@#$ out. Luobo is REALLY emotionally tied to Russell.

Love Luobo's passion.

...Luobo hates stats. He also seems to...hate Pat?

What he hates is people using advanced stats as if they tell the whole story when they don't. He hates people that don't watch the game closely, in person and instead look at hero charts and judge a player mostly on that.

Preach on Lou, those guys who overrate the importance of the fancy stats are out to lunch IMO.

I know Lou. He doesn't discount stats, but he really values what an individual person/personality can help a team.
