The insurance companies will swoop in for their reviews/inspections and they will literally take forever to make a decision and start any sort of payout to rebuild. Anyone thinking the builder, developer or owner would even consider something like this on purpose have obviously never dealt with an insurance company on a construction fire claim. It’s the worst.

What a bummer. I heard that the hiring fair was just last weekend for this location and they were hoping to open in the next 4 weeks.

I was really looking forward to this theatre being a catalyst for the Seton area which has really stalled in developing (economy obviously didn't help). It's been under construction for about a year already as well.

Well...yes. I would imagine. I dont have any inside info or anything, but from all accounts the damage is extensive.

I drive by there fairly often. Last time I went by they hadn’t yet taken down the burned out wall. It’s sagging noticeably and definitely needs to be demolished. Looks like they’re a long ways off yet.

I drove by there yesterday and they were taking that wall down. There seemed to be a lot of activity on site, which is good.

I was just hoping there was some sort of update on the damage with a new potential opening day. If wonder if it was isolated to just that side of the theater, if after they enclose the building if they could open up a portion. Just assuming that the building has a center concourse and then theaters on either side.

They could open as is, and use the burned out section as a drive in.

One of many who is too boring; thinks that there should be rules regarding grammar in custom user titles, and also makes moderators wonder if there is a charachter limit here. I mean come on- you would think that would be a limitation in the software

Odds are the entire building will have smoke damage. Which probably means things like ripping the seats out and replacing them since they would be saturated with smoke, etc.

It took six months to re-open the 130th Avenue Canadian tire after it had what seemed to be a smaller fire. Largely because just about everything that could be affected by smoke had to be cleaned or replaced.

Water damage would probably be extensive as well. There is a lot of water used fighting a fire.

I heard from a manager at Cineplex that the managers from Seton are working/cross training at the Chinook location until the theatre opens in Jan/Feb.

They put up the cineplex logo on the east side of the building and seem to be doing other work too. I'm actually surprised how much seems to be going on there. I don't know about building occupancy and permits but couldn't they open half the building? Could it be comparable to a mall under going renovations while still open for business?

I’ll say what I know - the fire was in one theatre, and the drywall theatre walls were quite good at containing the fire within that one theatre. The one theatre was extensively damaged.

I suspect that if they want to open early in the new year, that one theatre will not be open.

Apparently it was an electrical issue. Expected opening is spring 2018.
