Feel bad for Rittich. He's played so good. Would be nice for him to get an NHL paycheck even if it's just for a couple games on the bench. If Gillies does get in, I really hope to see improved rebound control from him. Easily the worst part of his game, as I think the rest of his skill set is NHL caliber.

RE: Gillies vs. Rittich -- I haven't watched either but their numbers this year look pretty comparable. In their last three starts, both goalies have a shutout and ~2.00 GAA, but Gillies is 1-2-0 whereas as Rittich is 3-0-0 due to run support.

Two AHL goalies you want to call up is sure a nice problem to have. Las Vegas really wishes for these problems!

No Frk or Helm for Detroit tonight.

Is there a reason why Rittich gets zero opportunity despite possessing the best numbers?
Is is simply because he is an older adopted prospect and not raised through the org like Gillies?

Who the backup is should be no big deal. If all goes well they wont see a single shot.

There is more to being a GM than looking at numbers and calling up the guy with the best stats

I expect Detroit to fight hard and try retaliating for the recent loss in Calgary. With Lack in net, our chances are not that favourable.
Flames 2 - Detroit 5.

Rittich has always looked better to my eye and Stockton always seems to play more organized and calm in front of him. The organization's preference for Gillies seems more pedigree based than capability based.

Exude a little more confidence will you. Flames win this one 5-0, Lack first shutout as a Flame. Jagr gets 2

In their extremely small NHL sample size last year, Gillies was better. And, as far as AHL play goes, their numbers are pretty similar so you have to look at quality of competition, and what Pascall, Huska and Zulianello have to say.
I put no stock in "the team plays more calmly in front of X". People said that about Ramo and about Johnson. But if that was a factor, I'd say the team played better in front of Lack, especially when he first came into the game, than in front of Smith last game.
