Or he contributes to a team that is better and will go farther than ours ....wins his cup ... retires... and you all bitch about how we should have resigned him...

Somehow I dont think he is the missing link between where the Flames are right now and the Cup.

For the record I did not mean a cheap add for the flames. I would not hate seeing him have one last kick at the cup. Listening to Rhett on 960 and how he hates he never won it makes you feel for the guy.

He alone is not the missing link, I don't think anybody believes that. However if we got that top 6 winger then I'd be happy bringing Iggy in on the 4th line + PP in Hrivik/Klimchuk/Lomberg's spot. He could handle that role, and we'd have that elusive one timer bomb on the PP that we could sorely use.

Hope he signs somewhere else that I can get behind and cheer for. I dislike the Bruins. Hopefully the Pens sign him for cheap depth. Or Nashville... Somewhere where I don't mind cheering for.

Yeah I also strongly dislike the Bruins, the fact that they are relevant this season when they've already had a few kicks and should be on the decline like the Hawks. Would rather they not decide to pick him up. But I bet that Iggy sees the chance they have to make a run this season and is hoping to win some favor with them, given that it's conveniently close for him and gives him one more crack at it.

He could really help PP and could be effective with limited minutes.

Bring him back. What's the risk?

Nothing other than money and taking up a contract spot. You could stick him with Janko and Bennett, the way Jagr was there for a while.

How can anyone dislike the Bruins? The beat the 2011 Canucks the most hated team in NHL history, maybe ever.

On one hand I am glad he is trying for one more shot somewhere, on the other I hate it because I have to hear the pure lunacy of people trying to turn back time and bring him back.

I would have been all for signing Iginla for a 4th line role with PP time, but who do you take out now?

Hathaway provides a lot more speed and jam right now, which is important. Lazar is looking a tonne better with his minutes. Brouwer has looked way better up until he got injured.

So you sit Lazar (most likely at this point).

Brouwer - Stajan - Iginla

I can see teams just passing around those guys all game. Just stay off the boards in the Flames' zone. Their forecheck would be practically non-existent.

There is simply no room for Iginla now. Some argued that there never was, but that's irrelevant now. There is simply no room in the lineup for a slow player, who probably has his timing off. Having to adjust to a new system, new teammates (though I guess he would be playing with Stajan), while trying to get his legs under him and get his game shape back at age 40? I don't see a positive outcome.

Who knows, maybe he shocks everyone and the team he ends up signing to has the space and patience for him, and he ends up completely surprising everyone. I just don't think it would be in Calgary. I would at this point rather recall Jagr who already has some chemistry with a few players, knows the coach and the system, and who was actually productive until his injury happened (though who knows when his concussion heals).

Love Iginla, but there is no room.

The only way I am ok with signing Iginla is for a depth scoring role where he sits and comes in the occasional game (like vs Edmonton). Maybe somewhere in the playoffs he will be ramped-up enough to not be a liability, and may prove to be an asset IF the Flames experience a rash of injuries (knock on wood).

I just don't see him as a guy that would help propel this team into the playoffs, so why bother?

This is great news! Gotta think he's going to sign with the Bruins for the playoff run. Go Bruins if that is case. They already have 40 year old Chara on the blueline - what's one more greybeard?

Sorry but nobody is going to confuse Iggy with the too slow - game has passed him by Jagr that we were treated to.

If he does sign I'll be on the Bruin bandwagon as long as they don't play the Flames.
If BOS has a free contract spot it would be a decent gamble for league min prorated, not much actual cash owing.

When he first left I wished him all the best and was cheering him on. As time has gone by, I cherish his time as a Flame, but I don't really care one way or another if he wins a cup. I don't know, maybe that'll change if we are eliminated and Bruins go deep in the playoffs.

Do they even need him though? Depth guy for playoff injuries I'm assuming.
