Seriously just sell it all. I would maybe tell them it needs to be moved by so and so date or else you will get it moved for them.

These people are family...you have to see them again. It's just not worth it to sell or destroy their stuff. It will be brought up again periodically for the rest of your life if you do that. It's obviously something that irritates you. Do you really want to hear snide comments about it for the next decade?

Throw the stuff in boxes and give it to them. Then you can be the one to make snide comments about them being slovenly.

Meh, I wouldn't be too worried about the perception of snooping. If they cared about their stuff they wouldn't of left it there, or they would have done something about it by now.

Pretty easy solution here. Set a deadline and if they haven't come by then, just get rid of it. Everything is fair game now for sale, for you to keep, or for you to trash.

List the big items on Kijiji. People will come pick it up and move it for you if you state so in the ad.

Time to roll up the sleeves, which it sounds like you've been a bit hesitant to do. It's on you now, and time to act!

And yeah, once this problem is over no need to hold a grudge or anything, just don't ever let them move in.

You give them a deadline then sell it. They obviously don't care about it. You don't even have to tell them. Just get rid of it an never mention it again.

Pack it up with little organization effort and drop it off at their house.

It isn't worth the long term family grief to be snippy, sell it, or throw it out. Even if you are in the "right".

Love it. I'm gonna start saying that on a regular basis.

Sidenote: I used to eat Kraft Singles on rice as a kid.

Back on topic: Get that stuff out of your house ASAP.

I have a simple question regarding their attitudes, as in my past I have noticed that this is where family issues often come up.

Did they pay rent? Did they pay their own way? Was there a previous monetary debt?

Because, as soon as people pay for something, family or not, it's no longer about being courteous. The act of payment really changes people's attitudes.

Sharing genetics is not an excuse for dickish behavior.

I echo the previous posts, I would give them a deadline and tell them that if its not out by that time then it goes to one of two places

If you want to be nice
Move it to a uhaul storage facility and pay for 1 month storage. After that uhaul will take care of the rest

If you want to not be nice.
Get one of those bagster bags delivered or the 1-800 got junk and garbage everything. Dont keep anything no matter how valuable.

I know you probably want a no cost solution but with these familial parasites that wont happen so you will need to solve it yourself and there will be a cost, it sucks but just chalk it up to a learning curve with those family members and remember never again do you do anything nice for them.

Wonder how it all went.

I know if I were in the poster's shoes, and I want to at least still keep the family ties civil, I'd just suck it up, spend a weekend to pack up all their stuff, give them a call, and then drop it all off to them. Then I'd get the space all cleaned up, and never have to worry about their stuff irritating me again. Just not worth the continuing hassles and well worth it for a few hours of unappreciated work.

I was 90% sure it was a troll post when I first responded.

I don't know anyone that would either leave their crap like that, or leave 1/2 empty pop cans sitting around so they can complain about it to a bunch of random people on the internet.

Given no answer now, I'm upping that to 98%.

(this should likely trigger a response from OP)

Its funny, because I read a wrestling book a bunch of years ago by Missy Hyatt who was a wrestling valet. She started dating Jason Hervey who played Wayne on Wonder Years.

One day he finds out that she's cheating on him so he basically boots him out.

Then she gets her box of stuff from him via fed ex and she said that she felt really bad for cheating on him and he was a wonderful and sweet guy that took the time to carefully fold up her clothes and pack them neatly, then pee on the whole mess seal the box and send it to her.

I don't know why that came to mind when I read your post.
