It looks like he did zero preparation during the offseason.
Christ Lucic is skating faster then him.

This.
I'm thinking Matt might have partied a little bit too much this off season.
Kid looks out of shape.

Totally deserves a benching but our coach has no balls.

His dad had that issue. And he was a better skater in a slower league so it wasn’t as detrimental.

We forget that pro athletes are people. I think this year is going to take a toll on these guys, in all kinds of different ways, and at all kinds of different times. Maybe people are fighting depression or anxiety. Maybe people don't work well inside this weird pseudo-bubble thing. Maybe people drank all summer. I sure did.
So who knows....
All that said, yeah, Tkachuk has been ineffective and just a non factor in every game, really. And it shows, when he's not mucking it up and getting in people's faces, that he's a slower skater than many. The utter lack of fire is concerning, to be sure.

It’s only a matter of time before the Francis article questioning if he wants out or at the least, suggesting it’s unlikely he signs a long term deal with the club.

It’s bizarre because I don’t see a lack of effort. I see horrible decision making. I see him trying to force things. He’s trying to make the fancy play.
It’s mental with him right now IMO.

Fair enough, but he better sort it out before we have to qualify him at 9 million this offseason.

Yup, every single play he’s making, he’s going for the fanciest possible option. Haven’t seen him take a hard stride in a while. Simplify.

He needs a wake up call in the press box.
Philly did it to konecny this year. Tkachuk deserves it too, and might notice some things by watching

There is clearly something wrong, be it concussions, some serious complacency, his shenanigans not playing like they did before and a fatigue regarding those issues from the rest of the team/organization or some combination of those things...I don’t know what it is, but headcase? Probably not.

I don’t think so personally, he had a some good games after that incident. It’s just this last pile of games where he hasn’t looked right. He needs new linemates. Look how Lucic changed his season around with a new look. Lucic and Tkachuk aren’t that completely different style wise.

Stop going for the between the legs pass/shot every game.
Reminds me of when Johnny would shoot tight angle from the redline all the time.
These guys get 1 great play out of 50 attempts ans use it as justification to keep doing it all the time.
Thankfully Johnny isn't doing it often anymore.

He does have strong hockey family roots, would find it hard to believe partying would be the case.

He looks checked out, just watch him after every whistle, he looks like he is at a place he doesn't want to be.
