I dont know how well Larsons talent would transfer over to hyper aerodynamic open wheel racing. What he does and what F1 is are universally different by several orders of magnitude.
Like to me the most technical Nascar drivers ever were Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson and they never went over.
Too bad Indycar isn't the feeder league it used to be like the 80s and 90s. Because that'd be where we could properly develop some NA driving talent for F1.
I'm not saying Larsen couldn't be better than Mazepin but I also thinknitd take a couple of years for him to come to terms with that kind of racing as well. It'd be a long learning curve.
Like look what a washed out and over aggressive Jaques Villeneuve did to road course driving in Nascar. If he actually tried instead of being a d bag he'd have mopped the floor with the field.
It doesn't matter how good the guy can drive. Mazepin's daddy is probably paying more per season towards his ride than Larson's entire cup teams budget.
Larson's a great driver but to leave a solid gig and try and fund an F1 drive, with a crazy steep learning curve just doesn't make any sense these days. Maybe if Haas was desperate and had some american money coming into the team, but it's hard enough to fund Nascar and Indy teams these days.
Indy would be a better route but it's a step down from Nascar at this point, aside from Indy.
Yeah, and Turkey is in doubt and Brazil asked for a 1 week delay.
I can't ever envision a NASCAR driver being good enough to compete in F1. Even if they had billions...it's just so much more difficult and different than what they're used too. Jimmy Johnson, 7x NASCAR champ, is getting schooled in Indy and he's with Chip Ganassi. Larson is a phenom, but I think it would still take him years to catch up TBH.
And to Speede5's point about not leaving a good thing. Just look at Scott Dixon, dude is a 6x Indy Champ, likely IRL GOAT, and has never considered F1. He's on a dominant team and is still top 3 after 18 years and at 41.
Dixon had a test with Williams in 2003. I don't think it's fair to say he's never considered F1, it was never an option beyond one test.
Lots of ex F1 drivers have tried their hand at NASCAR with little to no success. Kimi and JPM come to mind. I can't think of anyone who has tried to go to F1 from NASCAR. Tony Stewart is the most successful between open wheel and Stock cars.
The biggest adjustment for Larson would be breaking in something so light. He has an innate ability to go fast in traction limited cars on any surface. Would be nice to see him get more seat time in sports cars to see how he fares.
If Scott Speed was deserving of a drive in F1, nobody can tell me Larson doesn't.

That was a truly horrible era of f1 that Scott speed raced in lmao.
Also let's not forget Micheal Andrettis horrible foray into F1 as well.
I think the last great f1 hope was the fallen but never forgotten Greg Moore. He was headed to Williams after the indycar season he died in.

Paul Tracy maybe could have pulled it off if he could have matured from his over aggressive driving. But he never did. No f1 team would ever put him in the seat the way he wrecked cars.
I totally forgot the '03 Dixon test, but that was also when he entered IRL/CART IIRC so the decision was F1 or CART. Dixon definitely has/had the talent for F1, I just dont ever recall him considering it after he was in CART.
There are a few Indy drivers now that I think could make the jump. I do like Colton Herta and think he's a talent, but is a little too Verstappen with his aggressiveness and over driving. Pato O'Ward has an F1 test with McLaren after winning a race this year as well. Alex Palou is also legit.
DoubleK makes a great point about being traction limited. I'd love to see Larson try his hand at WRC.
Maybe just a super series...6 ovals, 6 WRC tracks, 6 circuit tracks.

Being a diehard McLaren fan, I was pretty high on Pato until I watched him run Super Formula. I really thought he's wipe the floor with those guys. I know it was only a handful of starts, but he lacked pace. Palou looked much better at that level.
I really wish F2 and IndyCar would homologate. They could run 6 races together, the three in NA, Silverstone + Euro race and Abu Dhabi. ACO and IMSA did it, no reason these guys couldn't either.
Now you have a true measure of who's up and coming vs not and a bit more of a global feeder system.

Perez extended for another year with Redbull is great to see. Hopefully he can have a stronger 2nd half of the season and help them to a constructors championship.
Really looking forward to Spa this weekend. My favorite track with a real championship battle happening, awesome!
