really cool list and article, Jetfire. Must have been a ton of work, so hats off to that! Looking forward to check out some of those recommendations ... got hooked to Ningen Isu last year and got into Mary's Blood a while ago too.
I have to try and keep up with more new releases this year, not just metal but music in general. I only bought a couple cd's this past year and only one was a new release.
I've been watching a few year end top albums of 2021 from different people on youtube and by all accounts it was a great year for metal in 2021.
I've seen Mastodon and Gojira mentioned here as a couple that have shown up on people's lists. Will have to check those out as well as some others.
in no particular order, here's some rock and metal albums I liked in 2021. Probably missed a bunch too, might add to that later. Feel free to throw in your picks, always looking forward to suggestions
We have somewhat similar tastes as there are quite a few there that I also enjoyed. A few other favorites of mine last year that may not be everyone's cup of tea in this thread.
Architects - For Those That Wish to Exist
Ice Nine Kills - Welcome to Horrorwood: The Silver Scream 2
Tetrarch - Unstable (I was always a big Nu Metal fan and this one takes me back to those days)
Royal Blood - Typhoon (not really Metal but I really like this two man band)

Thanks for the lists devo22 and Erick Estrada. I'm not too familiar with a lot of those bands as they aren't in my subgenre bubbles but I always appreciate seeing new bands to check out.
Death metal isn't really my favorite subgenre, but I have to share this music video by Angelmaker which was filmed on my inlaws' land in northern saskatchewan. This old Doukhobor house has been deteriorating in a really beautiful way for as long as I've been in the family, so it's cool to see it filmed in such a way that celebrates that deterioriation.
Much to my shock and delight, I noticed today that Opeth/Mastodon are playing Grey Eagle on May 4. I would’ve thought they’d easily sell out the Saddledome. Anyway, I’ve never attended a show at Grey Eagle, is it a decent venue?

Not really IMO. That said it seems to be the most common concert venue in the city so what are you going to do? I may have to get tickets for this one myself.

I really like the Grey Eagle as a venue, it's a tier or two below the Jubilee, but still better than the other mid-size venues in the city. The acoustics are really good even though it's a big box. There's also now two free flowing roads to get out of their parking lot and the casino tends to disperse the crowd so you don't end up with everyone leaving all at once, or you can grab a beer and leave at your leisure.
as always not sure if Ghost even belongs here, but here it goes:
not what I expected, but awesome as always.
I had this on TV and my wife was reading the lyrics (pretty hilarious) and asking me what the hell this is nonsense. Then after she says she can't get the chorus out of her head lol. This is a weird one by even Ghost standards.

Yeah, those lyrics. Just bizarre.
