I watched Tread the other day. A documentary about a guy fed up with the “politics” of the small town he lives in. He decides to take matters in his own hands and build an armoured tank out of a bulldozer and go after the people who have wronged him. Pretty unbelievable. And shocking that it happened in my adult lifetime and yet I have no recollection of it occurring. Interesting watch.

Ultra Magnus was always a bitch. He got to where he was by being a suck up to Optimus Prime and always following the rules. He gave up the matrix to Galvatron with almost zero resistance. He was an awful leader. Apparently he "can't deal with that right now".

He didn't even have to suck up. He was just the new version of Prime's truck version. "Well, he kind of looks like me, so he must be the new leader."

First of all, how dare you say this sort of thing about the man that brought down Capone.
Listen, I said he wasn't a bitch. Not that he was smart. How was he supposed to know that a couple Decepticons standing near him would not be their Darkest Hour after a planet just ate two moons. Any of us could have made that mistake.

"kind of"
UM couldn't even put the Matrix into his own chest properly. He lets Optimus almost drop it on the floor. Then it takes him two tries to put it into his weird chest cavity.
There's like a dozen autobots left, and the ship with half of them goes down, and the best reply he has is that "he can't deal with that". The only reason the autobots were in the predicament on the planet Junkion was because of UMs acting like a scared child.
Even in the battle of Autobot city he assigns himself to the task of "alerting the others" (aka crying for help). Seriously? He's in charge and also by far the biggest autobot, but somehow decides his role is to relay a message to others? He then disappears, as it's actually Blaster's (the communications specialist) role to do that. Wheeljack, who is a scientist, is somehow assigned the role of front line fighter and dies, but UM is inside nowhere to be found?
Biggest bitch ever.

Man I loved that movie when I was a kid. Except Prowl's death scene. Gave me nightmares.
I saw an interview with the creators and they just looked at the movie as introducing a new line. Then they started getting all these letters from traumatized kids about their favourite toys dying.

They had originally planned to kill Duke in GIJoe the movie, but after the reaction to Transformers, they had to rewrite. Duke just got better at the end

The entire shuttle scene was a ####ing #### show for childhood feels. The fact each death was originally supposed to be more intense and gruesome makes me think they forgot that it was a movie for ####ing kids. Even more of a mind #### if you ever read the comics. "Why... didn't they just fix them?"
The guys writing the film were paid to write a film and the only real directions given are "pass the mantle". Nowadays you'd see the old crew go off to do something else so if you needed to bring them back you could. The funny part was, Hasbro ended up regretting it in about two years for that very reason. The script was done before the season 2 line had even hit the shelves and by the time the movie was released they had already started things like Targtemasters/Headmasters etc using the new characters, but kids had never taken to them (mostly cause they were ####... the toys and the characters themselves). If they could have, I'm sure they would have done many of the popular G1 characters in those roles (the toys would have been junk, but people would buy for the name). There's a reason Generation 2s re-release never went past season 2.

It was also supposed to be released first. Roles could have been reversed if the initial schedule went as planned.
Clear image of Wheeljack alive and well in 2025. Battle of Autobot city took place in 2005. You're clearly out to lunch.
Yes Wheeljack is alive..... in an alternative non-canon Japanese timeline....that was created before the movie came out, and people knew who lived or died in the movie. Prowl and Ironhide were also alive in Japan, and they clearly died.

Joke's on you! Hasbro went back and consolidated all the time lines so they're all canon now! The only "alternate" now is the Alternators timeline, which is what they used as a means to make all the G1 stuff linear!
Prowl's character profile said he clearly had issues with over-heating, so that's all that was. And yeah, Ironhide's fake head got nuked, but his head is clearly down in his chest, as per his toy, so totally fine.

I'm going to need to see some sources on this. The Japanese timeline got really wacky. I don't know how they could possibly reconcile all that.
Edit: I'm looking, and the consensus is generally everything is canon, but multiple continuities. The Japanese run is not part of the American continuity.

I can't find it. But it was just an absolutely insane thing that folded things like RiD and other offshoots into the main line. It made no sense, but really worked for this argument that I was trying to create.
The long story short, Ultra Magnus is not a bitch, but I'll concede the cartoon did him no favours.
Not sure if anyone has watched the most recent season of Last Chance U. I'm not sure if it was because the school was in California as compared to the south but the coach was so much better on this season. He seemed more genuine and there for the players.
