Another lawsuit thrown out of court. Granted, this one wasn't actually a Trump suit, but it's still fun watching all these insane attempts to undermine democracy fail.
A Nevada district judge on Friday denied a request brought by a conservative activist to halt the certification next week of the state's election results that show President-elect Joe Biden leading in Nevada by more than 33,000 votes.
The case was filed by conservative activist Sharron Angle and her organization, the Election Integrity Project, against Nevada's Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske -- the only Republican statewide office holder.
On Friday, District Court Judge Gloria Sturman denied Angle's challenge to the outcome and her request for a preliminary injunction to the Nevada Supreme Court's certification of the election results on Tuesday.
Quote:
Sturman also denied a motion to strike down the Nevada law that cleared the way for the influx of mail-in votes that came in the election.
"The civil remedy of throwing out an election is just a shocking ask," she told attorney Joel Hansen. "You are asking me to throw out 1.4 million votes on the chance that somewhere between 250 and 8,000 people should not have voted."
Sturman, who won reelection this cycle, noted that if the election was thrown out there would be no one holding office, including herself.
Quote:
Hours earlier, Sturman had denied a request by a failed Republican congressional candidate for a re-vote in Nevada's largest county, which certified its results on Monday.
Losing GOP candidate Jim Marchant had requested a new election in just one of the seven counties covered by the congressional district -- the Democratic-rich Clark County.
Sturman denied the request. She also said that it would have been difficult for Marchant to make up the 30,000 votes between him and Democratic Rep. Steven Horsford.
Also this, from the same article.
Quote:
Elections officials in the Democratic stronghold of Dane County, Wisconsin, rejected requests from the Trump campaign to throw out tens of thousands of absentee ballots on Friday as the state kicked off its partial presidential recount.
Imagine how Trump would have handled this at one of his rallies:
Video won’t play, but if it is McCain telling someone about Obama being a good decent person even if they disagree on policy, that was one of the things I was thinking of.
We need more of that message everywhere, including in Canada and on this board. People are far too quick to assume the worst possible motivation behind any divergent opinion and just vilify those they have disagreement with.

For something like this, is Biden able to attend since he will be the leader going forward or is it only open to Trump to be the US representative at the meeting?
No surprise there. He’s shown no interest in the job for a very long time. Maybe ever.
That's the most annoying thing about Trump and his numpty followers desperately trying to hang on to a job he clearly has no interest in, most authoritarian leaders at least have a driving ambition to gain power for a reason, a desperate desire to make their country stronger more powerful and important like Putin and Erdogan, Trump has no interest in the job, the US and has no reason to be President other than the pathetic idea that if he can hang on to power by cheating that somehow he wont look like a loser (which of course will make him look like an even worse loser).
I dont know whether it is more frightening or somewhat comforting that if the idiot does manage to cheat his way back into the white house he will spend 4 years doing literally nothing, I doubt he spends more than a few days in Washington a month, his whole focus will be on Golf

The details of this book (Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump) were shared in this thread a while back, but for a refresher:
Quote:
Jack O’Donnell worked with Donald Trump for four years as vice president of Trump Plaza Casino in Atlantic City. O’Donnell’s dad was one of the founders of Sawgrass, the iconic Pete Dye golf course near Jacksonville, Fla. “My dad always told us to respect the game,” O’Donnell says. “That’s the one part of the game that tells me what kind of person you are. You play the ball where it lies.” So when O’Donnell’s office colleague, the late Mark Eddis, came back after his first round with Trump, O’Donnell couldn’t resist asking.
“So, does he improve his lie?”
Eddis looked at him and threw his head back in laughter. “Every shot but the tee shot.”
Trump doesn’t just cheat at golf. He cheats like a three-card Monte dealer. He throws it, boots it, and moves it. He lies about his lies. He fudges and foozles and fluffs. At Winged Foot, where Trump is a member, the caddies got so used to seeing him kick his ball back onto the fairway they came up with a nickname for him: “Pele.”

Yeah, the day-to-day duties don't interest him.
His motivations are to use the office to avoid going to prison, avoid paying debts, and make as much money as possible while doing the least amount of work.

This is 100% a good thing. The limited times he has decided to be deeply interested in the job, you end up with ideas like, "let's nuke a hurricane", or "everyone should inject themselves with bleach", or "maybe we can blow up that Iranian nuclear facility before my term ends". The best thing he could possibly do is go golfing.

Right, we wouldn’t want him starting a war to distract the nation or to inflict as much damage as he can while he still can.
Let’s be careful what we wish for.
That's the scariest part of this.
Trump has no respect for the democratic process and is so desperate to hold on to power for his own gain and protection, that once the legal avenues are exhausted, I can see him taking more drastic steps.
I know it sounds drastic, but I wouldn't put assassination or imprisonment of opponents past him. He's a guy who openly praises dictators and has joked around in the past about locking people up and committing extra-judiciary executions. I'm not so sure that he wasn't partly serious. He assassinated a high ranking Iranian official and was sympathetic to the Saudi prince for assassinating a journalist. He loves Putin and Kim Jong Un as well. I doubt Trump would do it himself, but getting a foreign actor to do it or just putting the thought in the heads of million of crazy deplorables and seeing what happens, is something he would totally do.
Could you imagine the crisis that would occur if a president-elect died before inauguration? The Constitution, from what I gather, never took that into consideration. In theory, the Democrats would have to appoint a new nominee and hope that the states honour their electoral college pledge. You would essentially have a person becoming president-elect that no one voted for, and an outgoing president that at least 70 million+ voted for him.
Or if something drastic happened on American soil prompting emergency powers of some kind? One of Trump's legal team members has openly encouraged an armed insurrection.
I know, I am still talking about things with a low-probability of happening, but I am not totally convinced it wouldn't happen.
I think one of the states that Trump is contesting should hire a bunch of actors to stage a fake court, where they can give him the illusion that he is making grounds through legal disputes, then on January 20th, pull the plug and reveal it was all a big cohoax. Kind of like on Start Trek, where they would keep someone entertained in the holodeck to placate them, while the rest of the real world moved on.

Trump cant be president after January 20th if Biden dies. If the states wont honor Harris as President then, on the 20th Nancy Pelosi is President. Trump is done
This was good. But for real, of all the qualified professionals out there, can we give an hour a night to someone who didn’t lie about being in a helicopter crash in a war?

New speaker of the house is elected before Jan 20th, and it can technically be anyone, doesn't have to be a member of the house.
They could pick, for example, Hillary Clinton. Or Joe Biden. Really if the Republicans try shenanigans with the electors, the Democrats have some real nuclear options available through their control of the house.
(There's also a real chance Pelosi won't continue as speaker, she's getting old and is far from universally loved among Democrats.)

I've thought about the same thing. What if Biden died before January 20th? Honestly, that seems like a very 2020 thing to happen of it occured before the end of the year.
