In late Feb, early March I pulled the trigger on a Grand Seiko SBGA211, or snowflake as most will know it. The finishing is pretty crazy as is the dial and movement. There's something about the smooth operating second hand that calmly seems like the flow of time. Great watch so far.

Nice one!
I looked at the snowflake. Beautiful watch but wasn't quite right for me.
I do want to get a GS in my collection and so far the SBGM221 is my favourite.
The zaratsu polish GS does is beautiful.
But for now I'm holding out for that GS that I can't resist.

The Nighthawk is a sweet piece and I considered it once upon a time. For dark face though, I went with the black Citizen Axiom and chronograph wise I went with the Citizen Calendrier. I don't regret going that route.
^ i think i saw the watch on the best buy marketplace for something like $280.....
I wouldn't be surprised, but that's probably a 3rd party and not Bestbuy itself. I think Amazon also often has 20-30% off fashion deals and watches are often included in those deals, so yeah, you might see that price on that watch if you keep an eye on it.
Just got delivery on my current "grail watch".
Vacheron Constantin Overseas 4500v blue dial.
This watch is getting a lot of hype these days and re selling well above MSRP. I was fortunate to order it back in February before the attention really took off and they stopped taking orders for it.
Picked it up yesterday and absolutely love it!

Well, I just bought my first Rolex
Datejust 41, Steel & Everose gold Jubilee, Fluted Bezel, Chocolate Dial.
Absolutely love it.
Wasn't planning the chocolate dial at first, but it looks great in person and with the rose gold.
Image isn't mine but exact same configuration.
Man, that is beautiful. I've been eyeing a Rolex, how difficult is it to purchase one from an authorized dealer like Birks? I've often heard, you could end up on a waiting list and i'd like to avoid the premium from a reseller.

Thanks!
It depends what model you are after. I bought mine from an AD and didn't have previous buyer history with them, but it's impossible if you're after a sports model watch (GMT, Daytona, Submariner etc.)
The "waitlists" are mostly BS too, they just go to heavy repeat buyers mostly.
If you're after a Datejust or Oyster Perpetual, you might be able to get one but it also depends which combination, dial colour etc.
I do love watches. Have a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air-King-Date and a very old Omega that that belonged to my late father. I was recently at Richmond Pub and there was a large gathering of individuals admiring and talking about watches. Began to follow them on Instagram (Redbaryyc) and they meet on a regular basis. Some history to those who love watches (https://www.redbargroup.com/)
reading this thread make me realize that there are many brands of nice watches that i have never heard of
congrats to you guys who have pulled the trigger on some quality watches. personally, i'd be hard pressed to spend more than $600 on a watch
For me, anything over $500 is a grail or a major milestone target of sorts. I wouldn't pull a trigger on anything more expensive than that on a whim (I wish I could though). I generally cannot really justify over $300 CAD on a watch.
I have over a dozen watches and I only have a single watch purchased for over $400 which I bought it used. It was a deal too good to pass up and it wasn't a watch that had ever crossed my mind, but when I saw it, it just seemed like a perfect representation for me (JLC Memovox Master Compressor) and a perfect way to celebrate a major career milestone for me.
I have contemplated acquiring another >$500 watch to celebrate another major career milestone I have in mind, but it would be used and I'm not even expecting to be able to acquire it to coincide with that milestone.
I treat all my watches essentially as daily drivers though.
I bought my Speedy for similar reasons, I hit a big career achievement and it was my reward for all the time I put into it. I will eventually buy one more "nice" watch because I have two sons and want to pass one to each. At this point I have no idea what I want though.
I googled that JLC you have DoubleF and that is a goddamn gorgeous watch. As is the brown Rolex above.
