To The Toronto Maple Leafs - 2003 3rd Round selection (Dan Irme) 2004 8th Round selection (Jan Steber)
i had to look at this for a few minutes to jog my memory...IF i remember correctly, judging by the date, it was basically for cujo's negotiating rights, but the next day he became a free agent and he never played for us until we signed him last year, correct?

My understanding was it was kind of a favour to the Flames, because they were compensated when Cujo signed elsewhere as a free agent.

We received the compensation, but Toronto wouldn't have received any had he stayed. So we sent a late draft pick to Toronto, so they get something for him, and we get a better pick as compensation.

Well, that certainly clears it up for me. Thanks
Too bad it took me about 7 years or so.

I remember when this deal went down.....so many on this board were up in arms about it.
Worked out OK I would suggest.

That 1982 trade of Don Edwards to Calgary is why i became a Flames fan. I was nine years old and living in Southern Ontario Buffalo Sabres games were on a lot. Edwards was the Sabres goalie and one night he made this amazing save that I was in awe of. I immediately made him my favourite player, not only because of the save but because he grew up about ten minutes from my house, i couldn't believe it. Within a short time he was traded to the Flames and I had to follow my hero to the Flames, which became my new team. Everything was great until 1985 when he was traded to the Leafs, but there was no way i was going to be a Leafs fan. My loyalty to the Flames had grown in those three years and from 1982 I have been a huge Flames fan. Thanks to Don Edwards.

These things have to be done much more discreetly now.

I discovered today that the inclusion of the 3rd round selection here is apparently contentious. Calgary drafted Andersson and there is no indication that NYR ever traded it back to the Flames at the draft. It may have been misreported that 3rd was included in the deal when in fact it was not.

Something I noticed in this thread is that the Flames at one point had and traded a player by the name of Erik Andersson.
Then a number of years later, traded for Anders Eriksson.
I can't be the only person to find that kind of weird, can I?

This is trivial, but we traded this pick (2009 4th Round, #107) along with another (2009 3rd Round, #84) to the Kings to move up (2009 3rd Round #74)
The Kings then selected Garret Wilson (#107) and Nicolas Deslauriers (#84)
We then selected Ryan Howse (#74)

Thanks to Gugstanley for pointing out a misspelled name. 19-Feb-88 "Rick Haywad" was missing a "r" = Hayward.
Thanks!

Yeah there are a bunch of those. I haven't included trading picks for other picks in my list. All my trades listed include at least 1 player.
I'd like to add them but research is pretty tough.
