yeah, good point on averaging it out so the contract is back loaded to keep within the gio cap...
should be interesting to see... BT has been very good at contracts, so i am hopeful that Chuck is able to sign a long term deal that doesn't hurt the salary structure... but i think an AVV closer to 8 will probably be the case in anything in the 7-8 year range.
i think a >7.5 AVV would be the result of a 6 year deal personally

7 years? $7.75 million AAV, on the dot.

Don't you think Nylander's contract makes this unrealistic? That's the starting point for Tkachuk.
The cap goes up every year, Tkachuk is arguably a better player than Nylander, yet somehow he's signing for less money?

You guy are way too optimistic. $8.5 AAV would be a win for the Flames.

This is going to be the richest contract in franchise history, no doubt about it. He will also get 8 years imo, the franchise views him as a cornerstone. 8 x 8 is nice and simple and keeps everyone happy

What? Nylander's AAV is $6.9 million. Tkachuk's, in that scenario, would be $7.75.

The contract value is $45M for 6 years, because of screwy signing bonuses, the AAV is low.
Unless you are advocating for the Flames to do the same.

Signing bonuses are included in the AAV as it pertains to cap hit.

No it isn't because of screwy signing bonuses. The contract value is for $41.77M and the AAV is $6.96M.
People can call it $45M because of pro-rating for this year, but he'll never see that $3.23M

Nylander counts for more against the cap because the league sees him as being paid $6.9 million for something like 2/3rds of the season, so they factor in the 3rd that he missed to make it around $10 million. But he's only being paid at a rate of $6.9 per year.

It gets pro-rated so that teams can't circumvent the cap by having a player only signed for a portion of the season. The pro-rating normalizes this season and (correctly) punishes the the team.
But that won't change the fact that he will receive $41.77M and his cap for the next 5 years will be $6.96M.
(I know you weren't arguing with me)

Whatever percentage of the cap that Johnny's deal was, it will likely be very close to the same percentage of next years cap.

For what it's worth, that would work out to be $7.6775 million per year. An AAV that low would surprise me, but who knows.

I'm not worried in the least. If it happens to be a massive contract, that's because we have a great player on our hands. That's a good thing.
I suppose the only worrying this is his dad trying to strong arm Treliving and we get a holdout situation fresh off a Cup win. You wanna keep that team chemistry going.

I know I wrote down 6 years, but in my head I was dividing by 5.
I shouldn't try to math in public.

This is going to be at least 8.5 aav. Maybe he does the deal at 8 if we give him 8 years.
Going to sting.

I don't see how it's under $8.5 at 8 years. I believe our win will be if we get him under nine. I don't buy these poster predictions of following past Flame signing rules that brings him under 8. Just can't see it.
It's a new market since those signings and deals are way more calculated now to the point where you can almost predict them within a couple hundred thousand based on stats (I think there's a guy who's been very successful at it).
If Tkachuk stays like this for the rest of the season he'll be above a PPG player and he will be calculated in the high $8's/low to mid 9's at 8 years and we will pay something around there.
None of this $7.15-$7.75 stuff.

Scoring is up across the board for the league though. Point per game this year isn't as impressive as in the past. They will take that into account.

I thought the prevailing logic is that you can reduce the dollar value by giving up UFA years?
Maybe i am too optimistic, but hopefully playing in city he likes with a great group of guys would trigger the proverbial "Hometown discount"...?
hoping Tre can work some magic
