In search of their first 4-0 start since 2001, the Terriers are looking to build on their hot start and keep their perfect record (3-0-0, 1-0-0 HEA) intact. Last weekend, the Terriers swept their games in the Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge, earning a 3-2 comeback win over then-No. 14 Michigan on Saturday after blanking Michigan State, 1-0. Against the Wolverines, junior Matt Lane broke the 2-2 deadlock with 3:10 remaining in regulation.
This is believed to be the first time that the Terriers and Friars have ever met with both teams ranked in the top 10 of the national polls. It nearly happened when the teams met on Feb. 21, 1990, but the day before, BU moved into the Albany Times Union Top 10 poll at the Friars' expense.
Providence enters the home-and-home with a 1-2-1 record, and Friday night's game will be its Hockey East and home opener. The Friars traveled to Ohio State to begin their season and split the weekend with both games decided in overtime. Last weekend, Providence flew to North Dakota, dropping the first decision, 6-1, before skating to a 2-2 draw in the second game thanks to a late goal from junior Nick Saracino.
