I remember Elson, but I don't remember him playing with the NHL club at all.

It’s a tragedy that Turner Elson never really made it in the NHL. We missed out on a Backlund-Turner Overdrive line.

1 game, 1 assist
I didn't realize be was still sticking in the AHL, thought he'd be an overseas guy by now

Elson's one game was the final game of the 2015-16 season, when they threw a few call-ups into the lineup.
That was the game where the Flames scored 2 goals in 31 seconds late in the 3rd to turn an easy 1-0 loss into a 2-1 win (Sieloff's miracle goal was the winner). It was Backstrom's final NHL game, playing against his former team.
The win moved the Flames into the 5th spot in the lottery ahead of Columbus, who went on to win the 3rd overall pick.
Depending on whether you believe that the Flames would have chosen Tkachuk with the 3rd overall pick (which Treliving has implied) or taken Puljujarvi (as Burke has stated they would have), Elson may have inadvertently helped save the franchise from making a huge mistake.

On the other hand in a different scenario with random number generators and a lottery ball machine in place, there's no assurances that the Flames would have had the same randomly assigned numbers as Columbus did nor that the same lottery balls would be chosen.

Yeah, if a butterfly flaps its wings and Bettman scratches his butt, he pushes the button half a second later and different balls jump up the hopper.
Also, if the Jets hadn't scored 2 goals in the final 3 minutes of regulation and then won in OT in their game later that night, they wouldn't have leapfrogged the Flames and Laine would be a Flame right now.
It's the one interesting thing I could find about Elson's NHL career, so I think it's okay to ignore the butterfly effect in this case.

So both the butterfly flapping its wing and Bettman’s butt scratching has to take place?
What if it was only Bettman’s butt scratching?

Doesn't have the same ring as FATA does.
