They have gone the way of clickbait with their articles. So many of them are "ranking" articles that feed people's need to either be outraged or gloating. Most of them are written by national writers who have little exposure to or understanding of the majority of teams outside NY and TO. For the buck a month I am paying from their crazy intro offer, it is not so bad but no way would I stick around for the regular price of the service. Plus, Haynes and Cruikshank getting punted shows me that their model is gonna hit the skids pretty soon...

If we are trying to trade for Dubois, we might as well go for the equally unlikely but slightly superior Barzal.
Totally nuts but it might take Johnny+Mony to move the needle.
Johnny + Monahan to CBJ for Dubois+Jenner
J +M to NYI for Barzal and Dal Colle

The Athletic projects the Flames to be the NHL’s 16th best team in 2023-24. So, they are saying the Flames will be what they’ve been for a long time: mediocre. I have to say that I agree. I don’t think the future of this team is anything but middle of the pack.
Why did this past rebuild fall flat?
I think the answer is the team began trading too many high draft picks too quickly. The rebuild failed due to a lack of patience.
|
Sam Bennett going from looking like a sure-fire #1C to what he is currently also had a lot to do with it.
How much better do the Flames look with a #1 Bennett in the middle, pushing Monahan to 2C and Backlund to 3C?

Cruikshank is still writing for them unless something has changed since he last wrote 4 days ago. Point taken though. The local coverage has been diminished substantially since Kent Wilson put down his pen and Haynes left. Eric Duhatschek is a national writer who has as much a grasp as any local writer on the Flames, so your argument doesn’t hold there.
Regardless, not too sure what else these writers are supposed to pull out of their hats these days.

Cruikshank is gone (as of this week) and Duha focuses nationally with a bit of a flames flavour. The whole point of the *new* model was pointed articles about YOUR team from people who know YOUR team like the back of their hand. Now...not so much.

Cruikshank’s gone.....yikes. So Flames coverage is down to Duhatschek. Hard to justify sticking around.

First line Cs don't typically get moved for first line wingers....
Columbus doesn't have a glut of Centers pushing Dubois out either, otherwise, I'd be willing to definitely move perhaps a Gaudreau (or Monahan) + another big asset to get him.

Wow, I can't believe they let Cruikshank go. The Oilers have content posted daily from multiple writers it seems and Calgary loses the only beat writer for the team?

I saw that he tweeted it was his last day - assuming that means he was let go. Was that confirmed? Just wondering if they could still be looking for someone to replace him if he did quit by chance.... otherwise my sub is probably not getting renewed unfortunately.

I would take Barzal over Dubois no question. I also prefer Tkachuk but I think that Dubois and Tkachuk are very close in value and impact. Closer than we would like to admit. I still prefer Tkachuk.

Clearly it's not about the writers themselves ...
Has to be the subscription count for the city I would think.

While I don’t think the gap between them is huge, I think you guys are overrating Dubois. No way I’m trading Tkachuk for him straight up, and no way is he better than having both Tkachuk and Barzal. That’s borderline absurd to suggest.

I think he means Dubois is better than Tkatchuk or Barzal, not both combined. That'd be an insane take.

Trade Johnny + for Dubois if we are going to make that move. Keep Matty.
No way in H.E. double hockey sticks does CBJ trade him anyways.

Haven't the Blue Jackets waited their entire history for a number 1 center?
Dubois is one of the closest bets they've had.

Yah, there's probably less than 10 guys in the whole league CBJ would trade Dubois for, and Chucky and Johnny (as much a I love them) aren't one of them.

Johnny+Monahan for Barzal would be something I would be interested in. We are giving up more talent but getting the youngest player with the highest ceiling and would give the flames 2 cornerstone building blocks in Barzal and Tkachuk.
I don’t think the Islanders can make the cap work anyway
