Many jerks have their name on the Cup. Jerks win championships.

I never said anything about his teammates not liking him nor do I care how much they do. I as a fan don't want him on my team. I'd rather not have to worry about him doing something stupid in the playoffs that contributes to the Flames losing.
Obviously Treliving was interested in him. Again, I don't care. There's many players that the Flames have acquired or tried to acquire that fans don't like.
Yes, many jerks have won Cups but it's not a prerequisite to winning a Cup. Having Kadri on the Flames last season wouldn't have stopped them from choking.
You wanted him and that's fine. But don't try and tell me that because I don't that I don't want the team to get better because that's a bunch of garbage.

Probably just didn't want to leave Toronto which is his home town. If he had a full NTC I doubt he's in Colorado now.

Didn’t want to have to go to Edmonton more than once a year.

4.5 (Kadri) => Calgary
So Calgary would've been getting a wonderful 2/3 C and dropping 1.8254 in salary if Ryan Pike's speculation was hypothetically correct. That would've been sweet.

This doesn't make any sense though.
Why does a 3rd team just get connor brown, why not just move brown to that team in a different deal?
Is the payment for Brown in the form of salary retention for Brodie? a 3 way deal where brodie is traded to team x who retains salary and flips him to Toronto for brown while Kadri goes to Calgary?

There's speculation that he just didn't want to move out of Toronto. His ntc allowed him to submit 10 teams he couldn't be traded to. He picked the 10 most likely teams to make a trade with Toronto. Calgary was on that list, Denver was not.

Meh. At least we have an idea on what Treliving is trying to do. It's a good idea on paper.

If the two trades had gone through
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Kadri - Zucker
Bennett - Backlund - Brown
Lomberg - Ryan - Mangiapane
Giordano - Andersson
Hanifin - Hamonic
Stone - Valimaki
Rittich
Talbot
I applaud Treliving's vision.
And now we silently weep..

Though Neal would be in the place of Brown if the rumours are correct

Yes, I think the 3rd team retains part of Brodie’s salary (perhaps 1/2, as with Barrie) and then gets Brown in return for facilitating the deal. I have no idea how much salary retention or if this scenario was even the case.
I’m not even sure I believe Simmons, but Ryan Pike seems to, and he doesn’t seem to go crazy with the speculation. We do know per Johnston that it was a 3-team deal though, and it would make sense that the 3rd team was retaining salary on Brodie. And I think it’s basically a fact that the deal was almost a reality (per McKenzie) and that Kadri nixed it (per LeBrun).
Anyways, it does leave you feeling sad that Treliving has gotten so close twice and just missed hitting a home run. The guy deserves a break.
One thing is I don’t think, cap-wise, they could’ve done both deals. Who knows? Maybe Treliving will be able to pull off an even better deal just because neither Zucker nor Kadri worked out?

Im no fan of Steve Simmons, but he isnt a rumor monger guy, he almost exclusively "in my opinion" guy...if he wrote that, the chances it was true are pretty good.

Pittsburgh decided to go with both and not trade him. MAF wasn’t asked to waive it, they went with 2 starters and it paid off.

You do have to wonder if Giordano laying such an impressive open-ice hit on Kadri a while back had something to do with why Kadri didn't want to come here. His antics suggest he might hold a grudge with the best of them, and, I mean, he made a throat slitting gesture at Giordano.

I think I saw it reported earlier that Kadri blocked movement beyond just Calgary. It was said he simply did not want to leave Toronto.

What you speculate makes lots of sense.
Brown isn't a salary dump where someone just takes his cap hit for nothing, he has positive value. That team gets Brown for retaining some of Brodie's cap hit.

That makes zero sense. brown would have gone to a third team as a sweetner to get them to retain salary on Brodie. How does Neal figure into that?

Neal was left off the proposed roster without any explanation.
So Brown would have been dealt, and Neal would be in the lineup.

I don't think Neal should be written off at all. In the worst shooting percentage season of his career, he was on pace for 10 goals and 25 points in an injury-battered season. He needs to be better in every way but there were so many things working against him, and those figures are still well above replacement-level.
Even in his worst season, he had more goals than Connor Brown, too. Not saying Neal is better, but there are things to consider here.
