I knew a guy who had the solution, if he was inconvenienced with the trip he would pick up the fare, then stop at a gas station because “we” need fuel.
If you really want to step it up a notch, when you get to the gas station, say you need to use the bathroom and ask them to start the pump, knowing full well they will have to prepay with their credit card.
Downside is you have to go into a gas station washroom. Double downside would be if they say they also have to use the bathroom. Now it is a waiting game to see who starts the pump.
Time is on your side, you don’t have a plane to catch.

I have actually had the airport driving problem in reverse. My Parents essentially insist on driving and picking my family up from big trips. Meanwhile, I'm fighting with them on just driving ourselves and paying for parking for the week because, you know, adult, and I don't want them to be put out by it. I even present why they don't want to do it, early morning, late night etc. Alas, they are so, so cheap that they don't even want me to "waste" my money paying for $15/day parking.
Some people are just hardwired like that.

I wasn't complaining at all. It's just funny to see people complain about being asked when I've literally tried to convince someone not to worry about driving me to or from the airport before.
I'm very fortunate to have a great relationship with my parents. I moved away from the young to try and make it on my own, but now they live about a kilometer away and I couldn't be happier about it.
