I haven't been to the original Chicken on the Way in years, but all the new ones that opened up seem really off. Soggy, undercooked fries, greasy, slimy chicken breading half the time.

Chicken on the Way fries and chicken pieces, when done right, is incredible. But I don't think they really put the effort in to ensure the quality of prep and cooking when they started franchising out. I think it was basically "here's the chicken and fries you'll use and here's some deep fryers, figure it out".

Used to love Chicken on the Way but I swear the last several times I've had it they forgot to season anything at all

Yeah, love the Big Mary. Really nice breading to chicken ratio, where Popeyes really overdoes the breading which when added with the bun can be too much.

I usually go to the one on Macleod near Southland and I've found them to be pretty good.

For me its about the frying of the chicken, its not too much and the chicken is still tender.

I dont really care much about fries though.

Popeyes is the best fried chicken. Korean fried can be good but it’s heavy on the batter.

I actually liked Popeyes when it first came here, but the thick, dry batter kind of wore on me after awhile, and I moved on to other options.

That’s what the gravy is for. I don’t find the batter dry.

Also Jolibee is terrible. It’s like a wacky KFC.

Yeah I like popeyes but the dry craggy extra bits of breading are too much sometimes. I like that but the bits are HUGE sometimes

Jollibee is the opposite issue. I love that you can tell the chicken is well brined but the breading sucks

Jolibee's is actually decent; the spicy fried chicken and gravy. Now I don't know what made Filipino's run spaghetti like they did but it's the worst thing in the world.

It’s like the scene in elf when he adds syrup to his spaghetti

Why are people still going to places like Mary Brown’s and Chicken on the Way when Korean fried chicken is widely available? Nostalgia?

Korean is pretty good but it’s also super heavy and battery and you feel it.

The best thing about Jolibee is the Palabok Fiesta.

Nostalgia has me putting Church’s ahead of Popeye’s. I think the market is too saturated for them to spread though

Popeyes got rid of the red beans and rice side. That was the only thing worth going there for. I go to COTW or Cluck n Cleaver if I'm fealing bougie.

Korean friend chicken is not all the same, just like our traditional fried chicken. Goji is to die for but WOW Chicken is.. meh. If you weren't trying to sound all pretentious you could've just said why not Cluck N Cleaver instead of the chain spots. Yeah, local spots tend to be better than chain.

Same reason people go to McDonald's instead of Class Clown or Alumni.

Haha! Do you have to kill it yourself? Is there a ritual? Does the sorrow of killing a friend enhance the taste?

K-Town Fried Chicken is bad for this.
