It depends on what year, but the mechatronics on the first version loved to go boom. In general, the 6MT of that generation had significantly less problems because it's a much simpler system, and they didn't screw that particular one up (as they sometimes do).

That sure seems to be the consensus, such a great combination. I don't have any comparative measure as every German vehicle I have owned prior to purchasing my X3 M40i has been a manual. The B58 is such a gem unto itself. It can go from beast to gas miser in a heartbeat, truly remarkable. I averaged 6.9L/100KM in Eco Pro during a near 1000KM return trip to the East Kootenay's in August with four of us plus gear on board. Owners with tunes/downpipe pushing considerably more power than stock get similar highway results too.

Yeah it's pretty neat that a car like the Supra can easily get over 30 mpg on the highway. Car & Driver achieved 34 mpg on their 75 mph highway fuel economy test with the GR Supra 3.0.

The GR Supra has grown on me, intriguing car when equipped with the B58. I don't care for all the fake vents, but it is a great driver. I'm certainly a 'save the manuals' advocate but would certainly consider purchasing a used B58 powered GR Supra paired with the ZF8.

Can't you get a Supra with a manual? To not get a Supra with a manual is a crime in most of the rest of the world.

The GR Supra has been available with a manual for a couple years now. Buying new, no brainer picking the manual although they are more difficult to get. If buying used and I couldn't find a manual, I would certainly consider the auto as the ZF8/B58 combo is so good together.
I spent considerable time driving a 2014 911 C4S that was PDK equipped. Went in thinking it was going to be meh. It was actually a lot of fun and I saw why the PDK is so popular in the Porsche realm. Don't get me wrong, I'd pick the manual when available, but I'm no longer a staunch naysayer to a good auto.

Does anyone actually think Jaguar's rebrand is going to work? I want Jaguar to be successful, but holy hell are they making some weird decisions.
First, they decided to cut production for the 2025 model year and come back in 2026 with a completely new, EV only lineup. That's a long time to sell nothing, and at a time where public and manufacturer effort is moving more toward hybridization than it is full EVs.
Then they released that confusing 30-second brand teaser. Here's a fun game, show the clip to your friends who don't know much about cars, but pause it before the Jaguar wordmark at the end (or don't) and have them guess based off the ad they just watched what it is that company does / sells. The answers are about as varied and incorrect as the answers you get from asking a non-hockey fan "What would you guess this man does for a living?" with this picture of Phil Kessel.
Now, this: Jaguar is cutting ties with 75% of their dealer network (in the UK, at least -- I expect similar or greater numbers for RoW). The reason is repositioning Jaguar as an ultra-luxury brand "targeting customers willing to pay at least a million for a vehicle." A million pounds, dollars, whatever they're thinking, they certainly have started off on the wrong foot. At least the brand teaser is getting views; 2.2m and counting in the last 8 days, but from the buzz, it sounds like most of those views are from people stopping by to watch a building on fire.

Wtf was that? I kept waiting for the skip button to pop up, I thought it was an ad before the video. Smh
Skipping to another British icon, has anyone seen an Emira up close? That has really peeked my interest. Still a ways past my means but it’s intriguing.

It is one of the most unappealing ads I've ever seen, which is impressive considering it's for a company I like and in an industry (automotive) that I am fond of. If someone had shown it to me and said that it was an advertising / marketing campaign for any of the following brands, I'd have been like "Ohhhh yeah, I can totally see that".

As soon as Lotus Calgary has one, I wouldn't mind taking a look at it up close. Always liked Lotus, but I've generally wanted a blend of power, performance, and comfort over sheer lightness and sporting characteristics so I've tended to look elsewhere. I would have loved an Esprit V8, although the fragile transaxle gives me pause.

That video was probably most try-hard thing I've seen since junior high. If you would've told me that was a Zoolander trailer from 2005, I'd believe you.
I know Jaguar is floundering and needs a shakeup, but I have no idea what demographic they are trying to reach with this campaign. They are both alienating their existing audience, and targeting one that I'm not sure even exists in reality.
And going all in on expensive EV's just when everyone is scaling back....that's perhaps even more ludicrous and ill-timed than the ad itself.
Just a head shaker all around. It's almost like they are trying to kill themselves off.

I feel for the Valentine's here in town who just opened a new JLR dealership in the NW. I can't imagine dealers are happy with that ad...
At least they'll sell Range / Land Rovers....

FWIW, the JLR dealer in Royal Oak is owned by the Wyant Group out of Saskatoon, not the (local) Valentine's.
But yes, any Jag dealer that has put money into a dealership recently is surely pissed. Not only because of this stupid campaign, but also because - supposedly - part of the move to this upscale EV-only plan is to drastically reduce the number of dealers, so franchises are getting yanked all over (even though that's probably a gift in disguise).
