The Death of WCW was a really good book to read for wrestling history junkies.

And the unintended comedy of the last year of WCW shows.

The WWE Draft is such a waste of time. I know they want to emulate the NFL so badly, it just feels so pointless. No one of relevance switched brands. The roster split is necessary, but it's just not very interesting. The Dudley's look great! I wonder if they plan on making them road agents?

I think D-Von already is? Or has been. I think Bubba still wants to perform.

D-Von was but left in January 2023. They did sign a legends deal sometime last year though.

IMO, the WWE draft is absolute cringe. Existing talent that has already been on each brand multiple times gets drafted to 1... of 2... teams. Yay. Maybe 3 if you count NXT, but the big boys aren't going there.

If you want to do the draft right, do a two round draft focusing on the prospects - Raw and Smackdown each get to draft two people (or tag-teams) per year to their roster from NXT. Not only does this follow the traditional model of drafting (like every other ####ing major league does on the continent), it hypes up the NXT talent far more and establishes a prospect system better. They can equate all three brands all they want; but let's be honest, NXT exists to feed the next generation of talent to Raw and Smackdown.

That's a great idea. And at the draft, you could have the brands make trades to try and acquire additional picks if you really want to shift veteran talent from one to the other. That would also add to the intrigue.

I think the current draft format is stupid...but is also meant more to shift mid-card talent around more than it's meant to move the top talent.

I think there is an easy solution.

Champions + 5-10 wrestlers on each brand are protected (they can be used in trades). This helps eliminate some of the weird pick orders that are used to justify keeping talent on a certain brand.

The rest of the talent pool goes into the draft. You get 10 picks from the current roster, and 5 picks from the NXT talent pool. The rest of the undrafted wrestlers are free agents.

AEW is my #2 brand, but my best friend is a hardcore AEW fan and had extra tickets so, why not.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0sy...T2Smzx&index=2

No Will Ospreay, which was disappointing because he was the one guy a really wanted to watch, but otherwise the show was above average. Not as good as the last Dynamite at Canada Life Centre, though we had way better seats this time. We did not stick around for Rampage.

Jericho was actually received warmly by the fans, but that is to be expected in Winnipeg.

When Renee interviewed Perry, there was intially a mix of cheers and boos which gradually became all booing and eventually became a "CM Punk" chant. My impression was that this was heel heat and not "go away" heat, but the fact that that a large number of AEW fans still consider CM Punk to be in the right with regards to the All In debacle isn't a best look for Khan, Perry, or AEW. In my opinion, anyway.

Didn't Punk proactively physically attack Perry?

Also, some good social media work by AEW last night. They included short promos by other company talent from or associated with Winnipeg, including Don Callis, Sarah Stock, and Luther. Everyone was in character. Definitely worth a watch!

I actually forgot that Luther is from Calgary, trained at the Dungeon, and was involved in violent matches in FMW in the 90s.

I saw Luther's promo on Twitter and laughed when he mentioned The Pas. They butchered the name in the subtitles though with "The Pah".

You think the whole story and the footage shown shows a work and not a shoot?

  • Swerve is gonna kill Christian. I hope Christian can talk his way into this being an awesome feud though.
  • That Shibata / Jericho match was hella fun and way better than I expected. Shibata's comedy work is top notch.
  • Jericho's chest was more purple than Grimace during a Pride parade.
  • Jericho's 'learning tree' stuff is actually entertaining me, he seems to have found a hilarious groove.
  • Willow Nightengale and Sky Blue are ####ing insane. I can't believe Sky Blue took that fisherman's bomb off the top rope, head first onto tacks. What a match.
  • Crossing fingers Omega is back to 100% at some point. AEW isn't the same without him. He's also my fave wrestler in the world, so there's that haha.
  • Winnipeg seemed subdued a bit. I wonder if it's because of the Jets' loss the night before.

Kinda unfortunate Omega isn't going on the road as an authority figure. I thought they were setting him up for that. I wonder if Khan is going to bring someone in for that role... Obviously Sting would be ideal.

Jericho is still fine as a character, and the smarmy mentor is a good role for him.

The key though is it leads to him doing less in ring, and when he is in ring he needs to put guys over, instead of going over a guy like hook.
