Very. They have the longest contract in F1 I think. Goes until 2029. And they’re in the middle of construction on new pit buildings and hospitality suites (and since it’s mob controlled Montreal I do literally mean in the middle of...and the race is 3 weeks away).
It’s also a fan favourite, drivers like it (track and the city) and it gets great ratings in Europe because it’s on during primetime. I believe it actually has the F1 record for highest tv ratings in the sports history.
Very few street races get the advantage of a great track and being in a major metro city. Most are out in the boonies which require camping, driving but dealing with awful traffic or taking a shuttle that is super expensive (COTA, Monza, Silverstone) or are not great race tracks if in the city (Singapore, Monaco). Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a 10 minute metro ride from downtown Montreal. Hard to beat that.

So I posted a bit ago about being brand new to the sport and starting to watch after catching the Netflix special.
After 3 races, I think I'm done.
Same guys win every single race. Very little movement in the places. May watch the Canadian GP just for fun but definitely not gonna finish the season.
I’m not gonna complain about Merc dominance, enough has been said about that. But today was a prime example of how poor the directors are at choosing which cars we see on track. For almost the whole race, until after the safety car, the tv director refused to show us the midfield battles, as usual. How do these guys still have a job? They’re terrible.
7-12 were separated by about 5 seconds almost the whole race. But nope, let’s show the Mercs and Ferrari’s driving around in no mans land with nothing happening. The fans see it, the commentators see it but the tv directors don’t care and only want us to see Merc, Ferrari and sometimes Red Bull.
It’s bad enough here’s no competition up front. It’s worse that they force us to watch that instead of battles that are interesting.
I just watched the highlights and onboard clips from YouTube and they showed so much action that I had no idea even happened

Watch Monaco qualifying. It's more important than the race since overtaking is really hard, and just the spectacle and craziness off it all is amazing. Only about an hour, too. Of course, if it rains for Monaco you want to watch that....
Spain is a bad one to watch too if you're looking for excitement. The track just doesn't make for an interesting race unless you get a safety car or two. I'd suggest at least watching the next two for sure before you write off the series, Monaco is Monaco, always interesting even if it's just because Red Bull manages to be super competitive and actually pressure Mercedes, and like Fuzz said try and catch qualifying as well. Then Canada is just such an awesome track it's usually a good watch
Alrighty folks...here's the latest update. I'm in a rush this morning so have a look and let me know if there are any mistakes.
Props to Jayswin...scored the first 10/10 on the top 10 order and was only 1 pt off the high score this week.
3thirty and GWE tied for the top scores. 3thirty also took back the Overall lead.
Sorry speede5...even with the carry over it wasnt your week (or Cecil's).
Spoiler!
Also, the trophy showed up and it looks AWESOME. I've got $$ from 11 people. Still waiting on BagoPucks, Bagor, RatherDashing. Either way, for those that entered we should have about $25 for another small prize.
Spoiler!

Mercedes is a shoe in for the win at this point. I think that it is time to start rooting for RBR in hopes that the competition for second place will be interesting at least.

Yeah, its over for the constructors championship. I'd really like to Haas figure out their tires as well and start pushing RBR + Ferrarri. If they can't it should still be a good mid field scrap with McLaren and Toro Rosso looking decent this year so far. Danny Kvyat is growing on me a little this year. And I have to admit that Max Crashtappen is looking much more mature so far.
Yeah, the Battle for 2nd and the Battle for 4th will be what's interesting. Despite not being a fan of Verstappen in the past, I'm definitely rooting for Red Bull. I've always had a soft spot for them. I loved Coulthard, Mark Webber, Riccairdo, and obviously the Vettal years were awesome.
I really wish they retained Ricciardo. I get why he left but the Honda engine does seem to be an upgrade reliability wise
