4th all time but only a few points back of 3rd. He will shortly be behind just Suter and MacInnis all time among defensemen.

I’ll never forget when Scotty Bowman named Gio the most improved D in the league one year

http://www.calgaryherald.com/sports/...710/story.html

When Scotty Bowman speaks, people tend to listen.

The gentleman is a legend — still relevant, still plugged into National Hockey League goings-on.

So when Bowman declares that Mark Giordano is the most improved defenceman — if not the most improved player — in the entire league, well, that must mean something. Peter Maher, play-by-play man for The FAN 960, passed on the tidbit to the Calgary Flames defenceman Monday afternoon.

Its completely a well founded to speak of Gio's leadership ability when the team is putting forward bad efforts!

Who else can you blame besides the guy that puts 110% on the ice and is fully dedicated to being the best hockey player he can be.

Seriously though, I have never cringed so hard in my life then when people questioned his leadership. He's the epitome of a leader lol.

Dude is an elite talent and easily one of the top 10 defencemen in the game. We're so lucky to have him. He keeps himself in such amazing shape, I could see him playing until he's at least 40.

Giordano is the most underrated player in the NHL. He would be the best defenseman in the Eastern Conference. He's also the best left-handed defenseman in the NHL.

And yet.... gets left off lists constantly, rarely in media conversations for things like All-Star Teams, Norris trophies, end-of-year NHL All-Star lists, etc.

He may end his career as the most underrated NHL player of all time.

If Mark Giordano were a Leaf they'd have renamed Yonge street.

At this point he’s trending like Nik Lidstrom. He could still be a #1 into his early 40’s.

But he's playing in the Western conference on a non-original 6 team that hasn't won anything significant in the entirety of his career.

Meaning he will never get the same recognition as Lidstrom or Chelios unfortunately.

Knock on wood but let's say the Flames win something pretty significant in the near future, then I can see Gio finally get the recognition he deserves.

Gio may have the odd bad game, but I never question the guy's heart, work ethic, or give a crap meter. Sometimes you just have a bad day at the office where nothing's going your way. But the guy never quits.

Gio has such a great story for the kids on the team, about heart and drive to succeed when things aren't going your way. From undrafted to making a team, to Russia and back, to dominant defenceman.
