Default Nova Scotia Active Shooter Dead

“ Police warn ‘active shooter’ near Portapique, N.S., may be driving RCMP look-a-like vehicle, wearing uniform”

https://globalnews.ca/news/6838880/r...ortapique-n-s/

” Officers have identified Gabriel Wortman, 51, as the suspect in their investigation.

Police say he is considered armed and dangerous and that there are several victims at this time.”

Shooter is driving what appears to be a replica police car, and wearing a Mountie uniform. I don’t have any details beyond this.

He's in custody.

Was following along with this with my wife this morning. A very good friend of mine lives in Economy which is about 5 minutes from Portapique.

The situation is very bizarre (apparently the suspect collects Mountie stuff, old quad cars, uniforms, etc).

Not sure what the catalyst was, but scary stuff nonetheless.

Looks like they took him alive. Pity.

Hopefully the injuries are non-life threatening, and all recover quickly.

Got a text this morning from a friend who is an RCMP officer in Edson.

They’re brothers and sisters and are all touched when this happens.

Life in a box is a better punishment than death.

There are rumors that the shooter was killed. Nothing confirmed though.

I have heard rumours of 15 dead including one Mountie. Total rumour right now.

Gunman and one RCMP officer are dead...no word on number of other injuries/deaths (officially).

That would be a pretty huge jump from one officer and gunman dead. Usually if there's that many fatalities we'd start to hear a growing number by now (like 3-6 people).

I’ve heard from people in law enforcement that victims are > ten. Not sure if it’s including Mountie, offender, etc.

Mountie dead, suspect dead. They aren't saying how many civilians right now.

Edit - in excess of 10 per RCMP.

I've heard they aren't saying the number as they're still going door to door to check for victims.

I don't know how true that is, just a rumour.

Nova Scotia RCMP said the gunman was Gabriel Wortman, 51. His rampage began late Saturday night in the small community of Portapique, N.S. He led police on a chase Sunday morning along one of the province's busiest highways. A person with the name Gabriel Wortman is listed as a denturist in the Halifax area on the Denturist Society of Nova Scotia website. According to property records, Wortman owns a denture clinic and two other properties in Dartmouth and three properties in Portapique.

Police victim identified Const. Heidi Stevenson, a 23-year-member of the RCMP, has been identified as the police member who was killed responding to the active shooter incident.

I wonder if the stress of owning a business in this crisis cracked him. He may not be the last one who does something like this.

Man, just when you think things couldn't get more depressing right now, something crazy like this happens. Just horrible. My heart goes out to the families of the victims.

This whole story is going to be pretty crazy when it all comes out.

Seems last night he shot and killed a number of people "inside and outside" a residence. Police followed him through the night to multiple sites where there were structure fires and other victims, and at one point a shoot out with officers.

Road chase began this morning and went on for close to 100km, on and off the main 102 highway. Stories that he pulled over one couple while driving the fake cop car, shot them and stole their SUV. Also saw photos of two burning cop cars that apparently collided head on in Shubenacadie.

Just complete shock here, I have family and friends all through those areas. My mother-in-law lives about 5 minutes from where they finally caught him, and my father-in-law is retired RCMP who was friends with the downed officer.

Police saying they haven't been able to process all the scenes yet. There have been photos and videos I've seen on social media that are very disturbing.

Guy was a successful denturist. Was in the news a few years ago and called an "angel" for giving away free teeth.

Lots of rumours his wife was leaving him and it all started with him killing her and her new partner. But the fact he had a replica rcmp car and uniform make it seem very premeditated. He had a minor run in with police officers about 5 months ago, something to do with how he was using his parking lot which escalated.

The story will be unbelievable as much as it is devastating.
