Thanks Thor... for what I'm looking for, definately outdoors kind of stuff. Less so hiking (unless its really scenic) but stuff like white water rafting, paragliding and the like. If I go, I'd definately be getting one of those super trucks to go bum around in, seems fun!
I also love the ambiance of a city/town with a lot of character, but I'm otherwise not very cultural. I avoid museum's like the plague unless there is some special reason to go.
(I've been googling up some random stuff on Iceland the past hour, so the spark has been planted. Its just a matter of finding time and a friend to travel with, also taking into account that I was hoping to go to India and the Himalayas next year so if I try Iceland, it would have to be in the next few weeks here.)

When my father and stepmother went a number of years ago they stayed mostly in rural boarding schools that I guess open themselves up for tourists during the summer when school is out. I remember he said it was mostly "Elder Hostel" kinds of groups staying in them, but a very reasonable way to see a lot of different parts of the country. They weren't part of any group and I don't think they had trouble booking beds.
He also said that he looked forward to taking cabs because all the drivers were female and hot.
Besides the above-mentioned Heima, two other films that may make you want to visit Iceland are Cold Fever and No Such Thing. I'm particularly fond of Cold Fever.
I'm up for hostelling, bumming at a school or whatever mostly just to meet other travellers. I wouldn't mind just camping out either cause its free (if its at least somewhat legal) lol.

After some research I am going to put Iceland on the list of places I want to go to. I really want one of those sweaters hah..
Right after England/Scottland and Australia.

Took a trip to the cabin last weekend, popped by Gullfoss and Geysir but my brother for some reason has those pictures on his computer, so here's some ones he took of other day trips he took after I left.
Oh and a few pics of viking helmets my brother sells in Iceland.

Had an amazing family reunion trip this weekend, I'll have a bunch of pictures and video slide-show up when I can sit down and do all the editing.
But I did pick out a favorite shot I took at about 2am in the town I was at, its a town those of you who have seen Sigur Ros Heima would be familiar with, they did a song there in the DVD when it was very foggy, which you will see in this image as well. The crystal clear bay water and the eerie blue fog rolling in made it a favorite of mine.

Flames Draft Watcher posted this in one of our epic music threads. Though I had seen Sigur Ros mentioned dozens of times here, I had never actually heard a song or seen a video until I clicked on this.
This is inspiring on so many levels.

Bon Iver released his new video which was filmed in Iceland, I think most of you will agree its a very visually stunning video, and for us Bon Iver fans awesome music to go with it
Man do I want to go back. Went last labor day weekend and I'm seriously considering just hoping a flight that friday to go for a couple of nights. Love that place, and one of the best meals I ever had was at Fishcompany, the tasting menu with wine pairing was incredible, on par if not better than what I've had at places considered among the top 10 restraunts in the world.
The whole town is one long party with lots of cultural stuff to do as well, the place to be Saturday night is a concert being put on by Hjálmar which is an Icelandic reggae band.
OMG, just finished Ljósanótt in Keflavík, last year Hjálmar rocked an amazing outdoor concert, this time the local band Valdimar were amazing. Anyhow, if people want a hint of Iceland´s amazing music scene here is both those bands.
For a nation of 300,000 people, the music scene here is ridiculously good.
