The cap numbers on the Hurts contract are pretty team-friendly, all things considered.

Anyone able to explain how that is possible ? I understand constantly pushing out the cap hit by restructuring and pushing out cap hits but how can the first 4 years of a 5 year 250 mil deal have 70 million in cap hits ??? So year 5 has a dead cap hit of $170 million ???

What am I missing

Because it's not the first four years, 2024-2026 are the first four years of the extension, 2023 is the last rookie year so they can roll some of the extension into that. So yeah those cap hits in 2027 and 2028 are going to be north of $80 million. If he balls out they extend them and kick the cap can again, if he goes full Wentz then they'll have some issues.

Gotcha didn’t realize it was a 5 year extension Vs 5 years total including the last year of the rookie deal .

those cap hits in 2027 and 2028 will also never happen because you can easily add fresh money and additional years later. Just look at their Lane Johnson extension this offseason, they added a year and 33 million to his existing deal, but it actually lowered his cap hit. You can work some incredible cap magic in this league if you know what you're doing.

Hurts has one thing Wentz never had and that's leadership skills. That said of all the organizations you would think they would have wanted to see another season before handing out the big deal again to a QB. They got lucky getting out of the Wentz deal but if this doesn't work out I imagine the dead cap hits are going to be difficult to deal with.

if I've learned anything these past few years, then that NFL teams are the last ones to realize that a QB really is done, especially if he has a big name. Wentz got traded twice, the Colts then traded for a noodlearm Matt Ryan. So even if Hurts completely bombs from here on out, I wouldn't be surprised if a desperate team took him off their hands at some point.

Steelers get Allen Robinson for a 7th round pick swap (234 for 251), with Rams paying 2/3 of his remaining salary. Nice, low-risk pick up.

He looked washed last season but it's hard to tell how much of that was due to Stafford not wanting to throw the ball to him as there was something weird going on there.

I think it makes mores sense to get the deal done now so it's not hanging over the whole season, and it makes the organization more attractive to the current roster and prospective FAs. He's also improved every year as a QB, even going back to college, so there's no reason to believe he would suddenly regress.

Maybe but I do believe he has a ceiling and he may have hit it last season. I'm of the mindset where I just wouldn't give out a long term deal with guarantees to a player after a career season because more than not that season is the best they ever have as only the elite players are able to maintain high levels of play season after season.

Hurts is extremely driven. I doubt he has reached his ceiling.

Las Vegas and New Orleans are revealed as the next 2 Super Bowl cities.

As someone who's been to both stadiums, the logistics are awesome. The Strip / Bourbon Street are both walking distance. Vegas' new stadium is bonkers.

Sounds like it was a bit of a technicality

They bet on college football which is allowed , but did so from the teams facility - which isn’t

I don't know, man. It's effectively a 1st and 2nd, and that doesn't look like peanuts to me for a 39-year-old diva. Feel like GB did well there.
